how to make the RX8 5MT as fast as the 6MT
I recently bought a UK 5 MT version of the rx8 and want to know what mods i need to make it as fast as the 6MT. Ive been told that the difference is in the computer engine management and all i need to do is put a performance chip in it.
Is this true or will the 6 speed version always be faster simply coz of the better gear ratios?

I'm pretty sure the 5MT has the four-port engine that's only used in the U.S. with the 4AT (and not at all for 2006). There might be ways to boost its power, but the best way is to get a six-port engine, and the best way to do that is to buy the 6MT.
Forced induction would be an inelegant solution given that the engine lacks breathing ability.

Mazda calls the engine in your 5MT UK-spec car the Lo-Power engine; the engine in the 6MT cars the Hi-Power engine. There's a damn good reason for that - they are very different engines. The Lo has 4 ports per rotor; the Hi has 6 ports. You need a new engine to get those. Along with the extra ports, the Hi has 2 extra fuel injectors (3 per rotor instead of your 2), extra intake manifold ducting and valves, and more. The extra ports, injectors, and manifolding are to flow more air above 6000 rpm to 9000 rpm. The Lo power engine, with it's more restricted breathing capabilities, simply can not flow the air and fuel required to make power at those revs.
There is NO easy way to get the same power from your Lo-Power engine that the Hi-Power engine provides, unless you simply swap in the entire Hi-Power engine, intake, ECU, etc. Nothing short of an engine swap, or turbo- or super-charging, will get that level of power for you.

^^^ dudes right, the 6mt has a superior engine. you can close the gap and surpass it though by going super or turbo charger which will cost quite a bit of money and isnt really worth it at this point unless you are pretty rich and have money to burn.

engine transplant!!!!!
been looking at a 20b, if you find a place in the UK willing to do it let us know, as once done the fun at the lights will be a bit more lively!
'oh i see you have the 4 porter...you can tell from the washer jets'
'yes that right fancy a race?'
'you will lose i have a 6 porter'
'i have twin turbo tripple rotor.....bye' as you disapear in to the sunset!

So what i have more torgue!Ha.
Anyways so is the 4 porter equvilent to a different header in a piston engine? So how come there is such a small price different in the two models; when you get xenon and jet washers and a higher powered engine? there cant be that much a differnce in the engine tuning then.
Will a turbo be less effective in my car than the hi- power version? And another thing i want to be able to get to 60mph in the low 6 secs is this possible without a turbo and just mods like flywheels, induction kits and a performance exhaust?
a 20B engine......

so, if power is so important to you, why did you buy this car?

If the price isn't different the best thing to do is sell yours and buy the 6MT.
You aren't getting to 60 in under 6 without serious mods. Without mods even the 6MT is well over seven seconds unless you launch with about 6000 RPM.

I wanted the high powered model really badly but as i wasnt paying for it, i didnt have a say in the matter and i fot the 192Bhp would be enuff for me but ive gotten used to the speed and and think the amount im paying for petrol i should be getting a bit more performance out of it!

All cars need their clutches diped to get a good take off. How fast wod a 6MT with serious mods be able to do in up to 60 times?
Will i be able to get about 6.2 secs with a chip, flywheel, catback exhaust and a induction kit?

If you don't fancy paying a lot of money on petrol, you'll likely never be jolly with this auto. My mate and I went on a car journey and we were on the motorway almost the entire time and only got 7 kilometers per liter. Bollocks to that I say! You can pop open the bonnet and make some mods, but in the end it'll just cost you more pounds at the petrol station.

wasnt Rotarygod looking at a 4 porter with plans to play?
ok if you really want a mod that will kick the living **** out of the 6 porter come there is a way.......290bhp at the wheels according the graphs ect from a VERY well know Japanese tuning house BUT thats a kit for the Automatic so same engine but the rest is a lil different!
i was considering the trip to the land of the rising sun, but i think a 20b would be cheaper in the long run as hte kit is about 3k plus the exhust sytem then import tax then the set up and fitting and the air fair!
