hit and run !!!!!!
So ....
I'm minding my own business at work when a co worker comes up to me telling me that someone hit my car and took off. At first I started laughing at him thinking it was a big joke, but he told me it really happened.
I went outside and sure enough the damage was there and there was a note on the windshield. At first I thought it was the person that hit me, but instead it was a witness at the seen.
The rear light is smashed, the bumper is punched in, the side has no paint.
I was looking around the building I work at for a good hour and a half and was unsuccessful at finding the truck that hit me.
I'm so pissed right now because I'm going to pay more insurance because some coward hits and runs.
I just need two mins alone with the person that hit the car.
I'm so furious that I’m actually a little to relaxed.
i'll post pictures of the damage later.

In theory, rates are not supposed to go up for an incident like this. In practice, who knows what insurance companies do. My agent told me that I'm supposed to report claims like this and that they wouldn't affect insurance. Insurance is based on your location as well as your driving record, so if you live by a mall or a school where lots of people drive and park, your insurance will likely be higher due to the expected higher traffic in your area and therefore the higher risk of your car being damaged by someone else. However, that aside, I was told my insurance wouldn't change based on a claim such as a hit and run. If you were to make 3-4 claims a year for minor damage, then yeah, your rates would probably go up. This is just what I was told by my agent (State Farm), so take it with a grain of salt.

Sorry to hear about your car. That sucks! A few months ago, someone swiped the side of my Eclipse in a Sam's Club parking lot, and lopped off part of the passenger mirror. I was pissed - but since I knew the car was near the end of its life I was surprisingly calm for me. A few years earlier, someone completely lopped off my driver side mirror on a car I only had for 2 weeks. $600 to fix it and re-paint the door, and it was never the same. A few years later, that door is now greyish yellow and completely dull - whereas the rest of the car is still white and shines like new.
Well, I just got an 8 to replace my dead Eclipse, but I also have a Ford F-150 Flareside. I don't think you can classify truck owners as typical stupid drivers. I've come across more than one idiot driving a sports car weaving in and out of traffic as if he was alone on the road. Now, if you want to talk about mini-van drivers... :p

Thanks for your support eveyone. I'm still investigating the situation. Maybe I'll find the guy that did it today. But I can't write to you in words what i'm going to do to him because it can be used against me in a court of law .

Sorry to hear about the hit and run, Pete. This winter I had left my 2000 Mustang GT Convertible in my office parking lot over night (too much ice on the roads to drive it home), and I came in the next day to find the snowplow had taken out my entire rear end. It took me 4 days to track him down and get him to admit it. $2600 in damages... thankfully I've now traded it in for my 8!

My sister had the same insurance policy for 20+ years. She made 2 claims in three years and they dropped her saying she was too high a risk. those had been the only 2 claims she ever made with them.
My father was with State Farm for over 40 years and they dropped him. Their reason was that it had been too long since he had an accident!!!! My father had not had an accident in over 20 years so they were penalizing him!!!
Dude... Insurance companies suck.

Sorry to hear about the hit and run.
My first RX-7 got hit and run twice (on both doors). It was a truck of some sort both times due to where the doors were hit. One door was smashed in and the window shattered, the other door's skin was dented. I no longer park next to any tall vehicles.
