High mileage without pre-mix or synthetics?

I want to hear from those of you who have high mileage (over 75k) on original engine who have done it without pre-mix or redlining regularly or using synthetic oil. There are too many who argue that all RX8's would break down if not using pre-mix of redlining at least once a week.

It is great if you want to spend a lot of dough on your car but is it necessary or compulsory is what I want to determine.

There are high mileage threads already, check those. A few have done it without premix or running synthetics. But overall it doesn't matter because there are many variables that come in to play when determining the cause of a Renesis failure. There have been many perfectly maintained engines that have died (I had two) for different reasons. There is no magic formula to making and engine last but good regular maintenance is a no brainer. And all the recommendations in the world do really mean **** since there is no science to back them up. So at the end of the day you just have to do what you think is right.

You miss the point

The high mileage posts have a lot of stuff and my post is to see and hear from those who do not pre-mix, redline every day since too many insist that all the above is a must for mainenance.

As soon as anyone announces the purchase or interest in an Rx8, these folks are essentially saying that Mazda is wrong about what it states in the owner's manual.

"Like I said in the other thread, those who have been around these cars for a long time try to share what they learn from their failures so other can try to avoid the pain." and there are many who did not have a failure at all, I believe. In the end, there are people frightening away potential buyers and causing used car values of an RX8 to drop by saying that we need to pre-mix, buy this brand or the other, use amsoil or other for oil or fear for your engine or car.
There are a lot of people who like it for its looks and cool factor who may be opting for other cars because of what you guys say.

You are an example. The question was for those who do not use pre-mix or redline every day and yet you answered? Why? It is obvious you use pre-mix and drive cars harder than the average person. Why the compulsion gto respond? Could you not go on to something else?

I don't recall many saying premix is a MUST but many who have torn down engines will say it is beneficial and cheap added insurance. We will never know for sure because no one will ever do proper scientific testing. But obviously the reason dirty engine oil is injected instead of premix is because people who own RX-8's can barely comprehend having to add oil occasionally to the crankcase let alone having to buy premix and add it to a reservoir of some sort.

Most who have torn down engines also know that a redline a day is BS and that actually revving to 9,000 for any significant amount of time is bad for the engine. And there is no debate as to whether the owners manual is 100% correct on everything either, it's not.

The owners manual is not written by the engineers at Mazda, they don't get to determine what gets relayed to the owners and how. Every rotary engine builder on the planet will tell you that 5W-20 is not a good choice if you live in a hot climate and drive aggressively. 5W20 is recommended (in the U.S. anyway) to meet requirements of certain legislation and that is the only reason why. Does that mean 5W-20 sucks? Not in all situations but if you run 5W-20 it better be a good one and you had better change it often.

If Mazda was on top of their game and knew everything they would not have had to spend millions on building a plant in Virginia to re-manufacture engines in the U.S..

IMO, all you have to do is look at the many changes to the series II engine to see what Mazda figured out what was wrong on the Series I engines.

A. Learn how to quote.

B. You are a troll. Do not worry I am done giving advice on this board.

C. I removed my post, continue making your point.

Good luck with your RX8.

It really depends on how you take care of it...really. I never redline and pre-mix, just normal maintenance.

I redline the hell outta my car with an oil leak and about 85k miles. I premix with freaking walmart 2cycle works great for me. I was using 5w20 like it says to use but was burning to much oil. Nothing synthetic.

One thing that is not mentioned enough about one of the reasons we rev our Rotary engines is to check on it's HEALTH. We have found some weak parts and when stressed we can feel weak or failing ignition, intake, fuel parts etc. The higher RPM's is where it's most pronounced. If you have an A/T and mostly drive around town, you might drive with a weak ignition coil and not know you are killing the cat and the engine. We must rev, it's not just entertainment......
