HID Theft

Hi Everyone, I'm new here. I've come close to deciding on an RX-8 as my new car choice… purchase will be a number of months away, but I digress.

The question is: Are RX-8 HID's stolen?

Reason for question: I'm a current 2002 Nissan Maxima owner. I've had my lights taken from my car twice since owning it. They come in with a crowbar, within 1 minute are gone, having done $3K in damage. I don't have a garage to put it in, so I'm basically SOL. I don't live in a bad area (on Long Island), its actually quite nice, but that doesn't matter.

I searched, didn't see any reference to it.

I would get the base model, except I would like the traction control, which seems pretty key.

Also, I'm thinking if the Xenons are on most RX-8s, and look similar when parked, a theif might steal the regular ones thinking they were Xenons anyway.

I don't think they fit or look good on Civic's. The HID system also has other parts in the front and rear (leveling sensors) of the 8 that make them unpopular with the stolen HID market.

One way to tell is check out how many are for sale on Ebay.

I don't think you have to worry about the HIDs on an RX-8. The reason Maxima HIDs are stolen is because the Maxima is a very popular car, so there's a market for them. The 8 sells in relatively small numbers. If there's no demand for RX-8 HIDs, there's no incentive for thieves to steal 'em.

From what i understood on the Maxima lights were that they were a popular car, so there were a lot of them, and it was easily stolen.

Most of them ended up on Civics or integras.

wondering if thieves don't know the RX has HIDs or bother to look for them as they are small quantities.
