Hi! So excited!

Hi guys! I'm a proud new owner of a 2005 rx8 which I just bought yesterday. Love my new baby to death! Just came from driving a 2008 Sonata SE V6 which served me well but could not satisfy the urges which we all know and love Was a great buy considering it only had 25k miles since it was owned by a family in the AirForce. She looks brand new!

Just wanted to shout out and honestly can't wait to start reading and learning more about this amazing machine. Really excited to be joining this awesome community.

Thanks! And I sure will be reading up. I'm on my phone right now so not able to poke around as much as I would like, but I did have a quick question. I noticed when starting the car, it almost feels like it struggles to turn. Not major and it's never not started but sometimes it scares me! Is this just something typical to rotarys which I'm not used to yet?

It might just be your coils going bad.. typically you should replace them around 30k miles so its about that time. Another possibility is that you have a weak starter.. most 04s had it till Mazda made an upgrade for it... not sure if it was an issue for the 05s.

Oh and welcome!

Is it a bad start everytime, or just one every so often?

I wouldn't say i ever had a bad start, but sometimes it "feels" like it might not, but it always does. Never longer than one full second. I think I'm just adjusting from instant startups with the auto trans.

Oh and I love the automatic cooling system which stays on after the car is turned off! Almost like her way of saying you wore me out! LOL

I know just what you mean. I bought my first 8 (a 2004) about a month ago, and at first, it sounded like "is it going to have problems starting?". I've never had a problem though, and after a while, you get used to it. To me, it now sounds normal when I start it cold. When I start it again after it's warm though, there's an extra half-second it takes to catch, and I'm still not used to that.

Be sure to read up on the car. It requires more and different care than most cars. First rule: never shut it off cold. Once you start it, try to drive it enough so that it fully warms up before you shut it off. If you don't, it may flood the engine next time you try to start it. Second rule, check the oil every other fill-up, and top it off (but don't overfill!) as necessary. The RX-8 burns some oil by design, and so you'll need to top it off regularly.

Welcome to the club!
