Help pelase on 120amp fuse

Help pelase on 120amp fuse

Well, today i was working on my car and grounded the power cable somehow. Let me tell you I am not happy. I found it blew the main 120amp fuse and after taking it out figured it wouldn't be that bad of a fix. I tookt he fuse out and went and bought a nother. Now there are 2 posts that hold the fuse down. the first post was easy screwed right n to the nut and no problem. I then attempted to screw the second bolt in to hold the fuse down and the nut that is encased in the power out side of the fuse had dislodged from where the hole is. Now this is an encased area underneath the fuse block. Has anyone run across this problem or now of a solution to get that nut to correctly line up with the bolt so I can reattach the fuse?

I would appreciate all the insight and help I can find. Please, don't flame me to bad about grounding the power I am already quite pissed about it and know exactly what happened Believe me it will not happen again.

I'll go and check my fusebox to see how accessible this is. I am thinking the fuseblock may need to come out so that it can be accessed. it should be doable with some care, but while you're at it disconnect the ground terminal from the battery.

Ok this is a super easy fix. On the fuse block (upper part that contains the 120A fuse) you will notice there are 4 push tabs. I noticed its easiest to stand by the driver side door and using both hands squeeze the bottom tabs with left hand and upper tabs with right hands. Assuming you can coax all 4 of them or at least two it is then possible to remove this from the fuse block box assembly. I am going to add a picture here in a sec of what tabs Im talking about. once this is completed, you should be able to access the nut and also reinstall the fuse. I hope this helps

Well see I did that. if you look at the end of the fusebox near where the windshiled is and flip it over the entire area the bolt goes into is encased and the nut is in this encased area. That is the issue I am having. Any ideas on how to fix that?

so it's not the screw that holds the nuts after the terminals have been inserted. And its not possible to reach it with an awl or flat blade screwdriver? Lets see if there's a technical drawing floating out there of this assembly. I'll take another close look at it today.

I know it sounds funny but will a magnet help reposition the nut back to it's intended location?

I have already tried that route to move the nut, I couldn't get it back into place. Thanks for the help.

i'm actually going through the same problem right now - even read your thread before attempting to remove the main fuse and thought i was being careful, but the one nut got away.

did you have any luck getting it straight?

planning to try magnets or, looking from the top, it appears the bottom of the cavity where the loose nut is resting is part of a pressed in metal piece that could be removed to get the nut and reset it.

if not, i may try to find the smallest toggle bolt available and just anchor the fuse that way - leave the nut there.

revisiting some bad memories here . . .

not sure how the OP resolved the problem, but I never did get the loose nut where it needed to be. maybe there is a simple way to the solution, but it never crossed me.

i believe (because i no longer have the car) what i did was

1) create an access hole from above (using a drill / rotary tool) adjacent the problematic sheet metal, 120A fuse contact shown bottom right in the picture posted 29-may, 2009.

2) replaced the one fuse bolt with a smaller diameter bolt of size matching the nut that will fit through the hole created in step 1. i think i used a #4-40, and it needed to be relatively long in comparison to the original bolt, but can't remember.

3) stuck the smaller nut to the end of a very small zip-tie / cable tie (using wax I had lying around), guided the nut into position through the small hole, and thread it onto the new fuse bolt. i tightened the nut by holding it with a screw driver from above and turning the bolt.

4) i did not add thread-locker before doing this because i knew it would take me several tries to get it to work and didn't want loctite every where. once i did get it i did not want to take it apart again. i added loctite from above before fully tightening the nut, and, because this i wasn't confident the nut was as tight as it needed to be i added silicone glue over the nut as a secondary measure to prevent it from unthreading.

not my proudest series of events, but it worked for me. i do miss my RX8 and it's buttery engine.

Just ran into this last night. Going to give the access hole a try, can't get that old nut out. Going to crazy glue the nut to the end of a small diameter piece of wood. I can guide it into place with ease and break off the stick at the glue. That is one messed up design!

Help!

I replaced the battery in my 07 RX8. I then drove it and washed it. I brought it home to shower. The car was parked for all of about 90 mins. I just went to start it and have no power to anything. No dash lights no radio. The key Fob won't work either. I'm struggling to wrap my head around this problem. The only thing I can think is maybe I blew the main fuse (120A) but have yet to check it. Any chance that could be it?

Probably not.

The 120 amp fuse only supplies a portion of the loads. If the 120 amp fuse blew, the fuel pump and ignition would still work.

You say you just replaced the battery, so 99% chance that the terminals are loose. Grab each terminal and give it a good twist - if it moves, "there's your sign."

Excuse me guys. I was looking for a problem like mine and i tumble to this thread. Working on my radio i also grounded The power cable. I dont know if was ground ir other cable, but now my car is not working well. When i turn it on the rpm is on the edge of turning the car off. Its like its difficult for him to turn on. And now the dash Board Is in mph not km/h. When i Change it pressing the button when i turn the car off and on again its on mph. The other this Is that my remote key stoped working. It dont open the trunk either turn the alarm on or off, it dont open the doors or anything, i checked the fuses and 1 Is burned. The inside lights fuse. The relays i cant check yet. I dont think that fuse is causing the car to start like that. But the car when its on runs fine. Normal. Also the engine light Is on constantly. Help please dont know What to do here.
