Has your warrenty work taken this long to get started?

(Im just super irritated and need a )
My cars been at the dealership since Wednesday for a failing Cat converter.. The Tech already confirmed the Cat is failing. For some reason they are telling me "They need the CEL to come on"... its just sitting there! untouched! and what pisses me off is when i went to go tot he car to get something out of it, those bastards left it unlocked! (no wonder they have a policy if anything happens to the vehicle while in their custody its not their fault)
apparently in order for the Warrenty to be submitted some guy has to come to the dealership and start the paperwork.
I called today and they said "warrenty guy didnt show up today"...
Im just really irritated since ive only had the car for 12 days, and its been at the dealership for 6.

Anyone else's warrenty work take this long to get started?

Not exactly the same scenario here but...for my trunk switch receiver due to their incompetence, it took 4 visits total, with the last one me leaving the car overnight so they would get it done for the next day. I had to unfortunately pay for the rental car gas even after that entire fiasco when I shouldn't of had to pay for anything.

The first visit they fixed an issue and didn't fix the trunk one I mentioned to the manager off the bat, which led to the other 3 visits. They said they had the part in twice, and both 2nd and 3rd visit turned out they didn't have it . Finally I left it over night as I got tired of driving it near their end of shift all the time to get it done and they finally got it done.

same issue here, mine has been in for over two weeks now.. they told me the same thing that they have to wait for the CEL light to come on.. just two days ago I found out that CEL has been on all along (secondary air injection malfunction error), they have been driving my car around to see if it will give them a misfire code.. which it hasn't done so.. Now, they are saying because the ECU is not reading a misfire code, they will go ahead and replace the cat but after replacing the cat, if the ECU reads a misfire, I'd be liable for all the service charges, including the cat and labour... I really don't know how it will misfire after replacing the cat if it is not now.. can anyone help me out here.. tell me what I should do at this point..

thank you!

Good luck. I am not sure how you would be liable for cost's when this should be covered under Emissions warrenty.. http://www.epa.gov/oms/consumer/warr95fs.txt Its alot to read, but atleast you'll be educated when you speak to them again about the warrenty covereaged and your costs.

Can Any Portion of An Emissions Warranty Repair Be Charged to Me?

If you have valid warranty claim, you cannot be charged for any
costs associated with the diagnosis or repair of the problem,
including labor charges, parts, or miscellaneous items that are
necessary to complete the repair. For example, if a manufacturer
agrees to replace a catalytic converter under the emissions warranty,
you should not be charged for the diagnosis of the bad converter, or
any pipes, brackets, adjustments, or labor needed to complete the
replacement.

Yep my CEL was on.. my cat was completely fried though. I couldn't go past 6k rpm.. kept trying and eventually my CEL just stayed on.

Yeah I am done with mazda dealerships. Just done. Nothing but horrible luck here. Imma just let my warranty fall and I'll deal with stuff on my own. I already posted about me getting screwed over with warranty issues. I don't understand how customer service in this economy just has gone out the window. It seems like it should be beyond awesome.

because if the economy is ****, they don't want to spend the money to fix the stuff unless they 100% have to and are going to follow every little word of their internal procedures for warranty work. Just the way things work.

Cels do not come on for a bad CAT. Ther eis no program for that.

Sometimes you might get a cel but it is for a side affect.

Yes, it has to get approved. Usually gets done over the phone with Corporate.

Must be an issue between them and the dealer.

Maybe the Warrenty guy is new or he wants to make sure that it is the cat only and not other things too.

But the dealers job is to think of the customer first.

Yeh, they're still telling me the same thing, they will not replace the cat until I agree to pay for it. They say the way the rotary engine is made, we can not tell if it is misfiring until we are able to run it at high rpms. so, I asked them to remove the cat so the car can run properly and see if there is any misfire. According to them, if they do that, the oxygen sensor will not be functioning therefore it will not read any misfire. to me it doesn't make sense, how the car will not misfire with a plugged/no cat but with an unplugged/good cat it will or has a high possibility of misfiring.. I have gotten in touch with Mazda hqs and they are doing some "investigation".. this is going to be 3 weeks tomorrow with no answers..

get the **** outa here. the ECU needs the front O2 sensor to function only. and thats only in closed loop mode.

looks like its just another dealership that doesn't know anything about the car they're working on.

so I get a call yesterday, they tell me they are still working on my file.. Today I get a call, they want all the service records since I've owned the car, which I doubt I have kept.. and they somehow were able to figure out that the car was misfiring sometime before but is not doing so anymore.. also they tell me that the car will no longer start because the starter has died.. the manager there tells me that it was on its way out anyways, even if I had taken the car, the starter still would have crapped out so I am liable for that repair as well.. jeez.. any advice?

My engine blew as well.... took 1 month for the dealership to tell me what it was and finally denied my claim. Dont want to get into detail, but MNAO (Mazda North American Operations) also didnt help in the matter. I am now looking into other matters of getting a rebuild and possibly a small claim. It took them 1 month to get back to me and tell me that a slight leak from resevior bottle neck crack caused my engine to fail. BULLLLSHHHIIITTTT...... I have contacted the B.A.R. Bureau of automotive repair, filled out a complain form with the dealership and am letting them get back to me. When I asked them where exactly the crack was, they said that they didnt know but that it was coming from somewhere near it........... be cautious and dont keep your hopes up too much.

edit: I had all my maintainence records as well and every oil change listed at 3k mi....... I hope the B.A.R. helps out.
