Hail Storm

I mention earlier this week that I was looking for an RX8 , so I got a call from the dealer that had a good sale going on. They brought the car out and tell me it is a $33.000 car and that they want $26.000 for it . Im thinking great , but the closer I got to the car I notice that the front hood was ding all over. See last week here in Chicago, we had a big Hail Storm and the car was damage.I just walk out , I felt it wouldnt be right to drive out with what is soppose to be new when it didnt look like new. Did I do the right thing?

If it was an 06, $26k would have been a good deal, depending on the severity of the dings. I'm sure you could have told them "Fix all the hail damage and I'll buy it for 26", and you would have gotten somewhere. If it was an 05, even in perfect condition $26k is a bit high.

The car is an 06, and the dings are to many to count. I did ask about fixing them and he said he'll look into it .Hopefully I will get a call. I've purchased 3 car from that place already, maybe they will take that into account.

What trim level is the car. My car was also caught in that hailstorm and most damage was confined to the hood. If it is just the hood have a new one put on. I plan to use a dent buster type service.

This is the touring RX8 . It has all the toys so that's not a problem . The weird thing it was pretty much the hood that was damage. How dose that dent buster thing work?

I have only heard of people who used them but have not myself so I don't know specifics. I have heard of two methods one in which they work the dent out from behind the panel with body tools and another where suction is used to pop it out.

As mentioned about the hood of the RX is made of aluminum and dents much easer then the steel body does.

I would think that at 26 you could just replace the aluminum hood and it would still come out overall as a great deal.

Yeah, with PDF (paintless dent removal) this could actually be a really good deal. PDF is like magic! If it's typical hail damage, they can remove each and every one of those dozens of little dings to the point where the hood looks perfect—like it's brand new. Hard to believe, but true.

The PDR guy who did my fender had done some RX-8 rear doors & said the aluminum is much harder to get right & so costs more. The shock cone setup on the underside of the hood may make PDR unmanageable from underneath.
