Unhappy Had To Go In For Rattle At Low Idle

Went to my Mazda dealer today. Had to go in for this rattle at low idle. When I come to a stop it would sound like the passenger side panel around the wheel well. At a complete stop the idle would smooth out and the rattle would go away as the idle smooths out. Then just as I take my foot of the brake peddle and the car would roll forward the rattle would start. However when I step on the gas peddle it would stop. This is the only time I would hear this rattling sound. So I had my Girl do a test as I was standing out side the car. The source of the noise sounds like its coming from directly under the car. But when in side the car it sounds like its coming from the passenger wheel well. I just don't get it. I even tried placing my hand under the wheel well to grab the plastic panel right when she was at a full stop. But that did nothing. You can still hear it buzzing all aver the place. Today I called my Mazda dealer told them what the problem was and that I'll be in on Thursday. He said: "That's OK he has other 8's in the shop right now so just bring her in bright and early." Well I was going to run out and do some things today but dam it that raddle just got to me. I could not take it no more and it seamed as if it just got worst as it got hotter out. Now its getting in the low to mid 90's out here in Las Vegas. So I started out to the dealer. When I got there the guy did not recognized me so he asked me whats wrong. After I told him whats happening he said: "On yeah we got like 6 or 8 Mazda 8's in here right now all doing the same dam thing. We think its the heat. But we cant fig it out. For all we know its some kind of recall. We got the Mazda Tec's coming out this week. So get in line. But don't worry we called Mazda and they are paying for what every rent a car you need. Even free up grade." I asked: "I under stand. How long do you think it will take?" He replied:"Oh I think we should know by the 10th." I was WTF?!!! the 10th! You got to be kidding me?!. Hes like; "oh its no big deal." I said:"Well I'll just add on 1 more week to what you just said LOL!." Man this sucks. So now I'm stuck with this Mercury Montego. Man this thing is freaking big!. Oh well. I'm home missing my 8. But I'll keep you guys posted on whats cracking. I hope for the best

Ahh crap get this, all the rattles are due to my Motor mounts. Freacking guy in Mazda service tryed to tell me it was due to damage caused by my car accident. But the inspector from my car INS. said my motor mounts are going out due to ware and tear and is not due to them being torn during the wreck. I dont know what the hell is going on but all this repair is going to run $500+. So Mazda or my car INS.co is going to cover the bill in the end. The part that sucks for me is I have to pay for my renta car if they say its due to my wreck and that will run me up the a$$ if my car INS.co dont move quick!.

I don't understand what you're saying. If it's motor mounts, it takes maybe 30 minutes to fix, and should be covered by warranty.

Does anyone know if they really cost $500? That seems very high.

If the motor mounts are "worn out", maybe your car will have a smoother idle when you get it back. I've never had be without my car since bought in August 2004. I can imagine that it must suck. Hang in there.

Premature failure of RX-8 motormounts has been discussed here before... and if you were in an accident, they definitely could have been damaged simply by the force of the impact. Mine definitely were shot after I was rear-ended hard, and they were replaced by the bodyshop after I pointed out the totally abnormal vibration the car had at idle.

Do a search on motor mounts or engine mounts, and fight to get them fixed either under your warranty (it's still in effect, right?) or as damage from your accident.
Edit: Here's a thread from a year ago: https://www.rx8club.com/showthread.p...e+motor+mounts

Motor mounts replaced by new P/N.
Car does not shake any more, but rattle still present when A/C is on.
