None of my other cars have this. Is it normal to have this very fine tire soot spattered on the lower-rear of the front and rear wheel-wells? I have three other cars and neither of them has ever had tire dust/soot on the body in such a manner. In fact I've never seen tire soot on a car till now.

 

It's not normal. Make an appointment with a lawyer, it's clear to me now that you got a lemon. Whatever you do, don't buy another RX-8.

Are you referring to brake dust? Is it on the rims as well? If so, not to worry. This is a known "issue"with this car. Price you pay for such outstanding brakes. If it really bothers you, try a different brake pad compound.

 

Sticky tires do that,... crappy tires dont.

 

It may also be road-crud. As long as the tires look OK, and there are not large chunks of rubber don't sweat it.

My '05 RX-8 has far less brake dust than my daughter's Mazda6. In fact barely any. I have the stock Dunlop Sport 8090's. So you might want to get it checked out.

 

I get LOTS of brake dust on my '05 RX-8 but it's less than what I got on my '99 Passat.

Still, my wife's Saturn (still on original pads/rotors after 70K) has almost none.

why i dont answer your post, because they never make any sense. every topic i have seen from you is like some off the wall questions. its like me coming here and asking why did the dog cross the road, while i was driving me my 8. or is it normal when i turn the key to off does it suppose to shut down my car? that is what your topics are like.

If brake dust is a big concern, try the Hawk Performance Ceramic when you replace your pads. I got them this year, and they produce much less dust than the OE pads (~10%) and they're noiseless.

 

are you using tire dressing? are you using too much tire dressing?

it could be brake dust or tire dressing depending on what kind u are putting on your tires and what u are using to put it on that **** will splatter and looks black after the drive

 

If it's in the wheel well, it's not likely going to be brake dust - the stuff is so fine, and powdery that unless you scrub the inside of the wheel wells you're never going to see it there. More than likely it's either little rubber peelings from your tires (if, say, you've been at the track or doing something stupid like burnouts) or tar/asphalt debris from the road.

I'm seeing the spatter where normally you'd see mudspatter if you've driven through a muddy puddle or went off-roading. You know the outside lower corner of the wheel-well. Not inside the wheel-well.

I doubt its tar. It came off very easy with a wet paper towel and if I rubbed a little off with my fingers It felt like very fine powder.

I did wipe it off. It's not just dirt. I'm just making sure that the appearance of this black soot is not as a result of something more serious.

 

Then it's oil off the road.

Oil/dirt what's the differance? Just clean it.

If it's rubber from your tires you are dirving and sliding too hard.

It sounds like carbon black, a black powdery substance which is mixed with the rubber compounds to make the tire look black. Raw tire rubber, when its first made ,looks like whitish-yellow cheese, it has to be colored and this may be a fine residue. Another possibility is that it is soot, like the kind the normally collects in the tail pipe - you might check to see if your exhaust system is leaking - but this is a lower probablity. A third possibility is that it is finely ground tire - this could be from driving over a freeway that has those evil little scraped ridges so the road is acting as a kind of grater. The forth - as mentioned by the rest of the team is that it is rubbing from when you apply the brakes.

 

Why is it so hard for people to accept that it's break dust?
