^ Good advice. Also verify that your spark plugs are torqued properly. A loose plug can cause "low compression".

But can it cause "random" low compression? Because that's what he's experiencing. It starts up fine hot. But not when it's left for over 1 hour. It happens after the engine has cooled down

Unhappy

I'm having compression issues as well and a quick search lead me here. I've done tedous cleaning and numerous resets with the same outcome. The issue started after my father insisted on changing my spark plugs for me because "women shouldn't work on cars cause it's a mans job." I haven't inspected them yet but I think he may have purposefully installed the plugs incorrectly. "You need a car I can work on, not this foreign ****"

Wow, I don't think I would let him work on it anymore.
There are plenty of women who do their own maintenance, I had my daughter's helping me do mechanic work at an early age, and it's something they look back on fondly.
They also called BS on shops that tried to lie to them because I taught them what to watch for.
I know you don't mind getting your hands dirty.
This is your best resource.
Plenty of us are willing to walk you through it, and there may be members in your area willing to help you for a pizza & a six pack.

This is interesting. From what I have gathered is the cars that have low compression w/ problematic hot starts are more apt to start after waiting 10 minutes or so to cool off.. where as your real hot starts, which are immediately after engine shut down, have no issue.
