Found Chassis Code?

Take a look at the following pic under the hood, and look at the metal placard on the firewall:

Maybe I'm nuts, or maybe it's a trick, but it looks like the RX-8 will be the FE17 ?? Whaddaya think?

I wonder if there will be any suffixes to that like FC3S and FD3S. From the looks of the VIN, definitely an FE, but probably not an FE17, otherwise us third gen owners would be driving FD33s. The next three numbers (looks like 1-7-5) in the above VIN are Mazda's body and engine designation. I don't have a clue which is which, or whether you can use the same formula from other Mazdas to decode them. (briskly rubbing hands together) Now I can plan on that license plate...

Didn't forget. One of the shots Boowana sent this week had a close-up of the door jamb sticker -- it was not filled in. Imagine how tormented I felt staring at the "Kg-front/Kg-rear" with blanks!

Yep, it was nekked as a jaybird.

But we did forget, and it's lucky that we caught this VIN plate after all.

If you go to the Specifications page here [ http://www.poweraxel.com/autosalon/as2003/mazdaspeed/ ] just below the main picture is this text:

"MODELFSE3P"

Maybe?

Edit - Okay, that was very odd. I copied the text from the site and it put in an extra letter when the forum processed it. Riiiiiiight. Anyway, what I really see at that page is "SE3P".
