forgot what it was like to really drive

Just got my RX-8.... I totally forgot how much fun it is to drive. I realized that I had spent the past 15 years shuffling kids around and using my car as a mobile office/resturant. Since driving the RX-8 I haven't turned the radio on -just LOVE to listen to the engine instead .... look forward to red lights so I can wind-it-up and don't care if my cell rings - can't answer it anyway because I'm busy shifting and passing other cars!
I think there are people who drive and then there are drivers.

Been 18 years for me! Great post, akruger. My wife (who drives) doesn't understand how I can have so much fun driving my new R3. But that's not as funny as the people who stare at you with a puzzled look on their face and ask "Why would you buy a car with a manual transmission!?".

I usually reply the same as I do to those who ask why I ride a motorcycle..."If you have to ask, you wouldn't understand the answer".

Exactly.
A kid at work asked why I spend so much money on my car, why I wash it at work about twice a week. Aside from pride in ownership, I love cars. I love my car. And I love to drive my car. His answer, "It only goes from point A to point B" I told him, you will never understand.
He drives a late 90's camry

In 3 weeks of ownership, I've had the radio on twice. Once to see how it sounded, and once while waiting in a parking lot for a friend to show up.

I'm having the exact same feelings in reverse. I got rear ended and I've been in a rental car for a little over 3 weeks now. It's a mazda 3 which is definitely not a bad car, but I have this itch to drive anything a bit more fun oriented.

love to hear it man, it really is nice. I'm sure even more so when you havent been doing so for awhile. It's funny to when you are having that much fun, if you get a good look at the other drivers on the road, everyone is always so angry looking. But it's only cause their cars suck!
