Floor mats, no clip?

There is a metal ring on the floor mat but yet no clip in the floor? My mats move all over the place, I'm thinking of adding velcro to the bottom.

As part of the PDI, they should have installed a small metal piece with a post that the hole in the mat locates over. It's secured to the floor under the front of the driver's seat. For some reason it's only on the driver's side, though.

If yours is absent, go remonstrate with the dealership.

Thanks, I don't have one!

Just double checked, nope no clip. The mat was WAY too high they had it so the clip would be almost half way to the pedal! I see it goes just before the bump at the seat.

Mine neither, nada, zip! Often I have to reach down and pull the mat down while I was driving 'cause it's annoying to have the mat slowly slipped way to high.

When I got mine, the mat was riding high on the foot rest. I pulled it back to get it off the pedal and it would not go back far enough. I thought this is stupid. Why is the mat longer than the space to fit it in?

Then I looked under the seat and saw the post sticking up and the corresponding hole in the mat. It was the post preventing the mat from sliding back. Rasied the edge, put the hole over the post and Viola!

So obviously my dealer isn't the only one forgetting to install the post?

Nope. There was a thread a couple weeks ago about this. One of the members found it in his glovebox and didn't know what it was. I posted a pic of mine with it installed to help solve the mystery.

Sheesh, I called my dealer, they said "Please pop by and we'll make sure it's not in your car"

Ok listen MORON, it's NOT THERE! I looked, I'm not driving entirely across town costing me $10 in fuel for you to check if it's there, and if it's not order it, than drive clear across town again!

I'm like, find it, I'll come in when you have one to install at MY convience when I am in the area.

SHEESH! I paid $525 for them to PDI this car, if they can't put in a freaking floor mat, I better start checking things like oil!

First off the windshield washer fluid was EMPTY when I picked up the car, my salesman had to fill it!

Ok, I just got a call back from Mazda. Apparently I will be getting a new floor mat on the driver side.

Apparently the pin is in the wrong spot!

There is a hole in the floor mat and a pin should be WAY under your seat, although I can't find it.

They said I will be getting a new pin and mat when they get them in.

ooops.

Thumbs down Not installed

My dealer just left the hook in the glove compartment. I had no idea what it was for, and that sliding mat had been bugging me.

Good thing I read this thread:>

and with mat removed

Holding pin is actually part of a bracket attached to frame under seat.

I had to hunt around for my metal clip a bit, but it most likely is down there. It must have been left off of the dealer checklist, every single car had it that way at the Tustin meet ~1 month ago (it annoyed me on mine so I checked others). I tried unscrewing the location where it has to be attached, but it's done in pretty tight and I couldn't get enough torque (or is it horsepower j/k) on my little swiss army knife.

Ok, after push the seat all the way back and took the mat out to clean, what do you know, there it is; that mat covered the clip and I've been pulling it all the way down without realizing the clip was there :o

mystery item in glove box

Thanks to the Forum! Now I know what that strange bracket in the glove box is for. I quickly found my driver's floor mat creeping towards the pedals. The gromet in the mat was obvious enough but something was missing. It took me two weeks to notice the strange bracket in the glove box. At last I know the trick.
Thanks guys.

Did anyone see the CBS TV story on the hottest selling car (RX-8) this summer?
A co-worker told me about seeing the story this morning on TV.

Love my Nordic Green!

I have the pin in my glove box, but for the love of god, how do you intall it? I found, actually...felt a rounded screw head underneath the seat. Am I supposed to unscrew that and attach the pin? If anyone has installed it, could you please let me know how you did it. Thanks

I just did mine. Thanks for the clue as to what the bracket is for! I have been asking for two weeks and have been adjusting the mat for two weeks.

How to install? The screw is actually the center post of one of those plastic carpet plugs they use. You just push them in place to start with. To remove, I used a #2 phillips from one of my hex sets. Just the small hex head, no room for anything else under there. You just slowly turn the srew and it will eventually come up enough to turn and pull with your fingers. When it's up about an eigth inch, you can pull the plug out with your fingers. Place it through the hole in the bracket and push it back in. It works just fine. Hope this helps.

Thanks again for the clue!

LMAO!

Not laughing at you guys... hehe (well sorta, but oh well).

Can't believe the mechanics these days... and that's what alot of them are anymore. When I was a grease... errr automotive technician, if we got a new model line (or year for that matter)... we looked those honeys inside out and upside down.

It wasn't about cranking out flat rate hours and making lots of money (not that it didn't hurt), but we took pride in the cars we sold and worked on. Sounds like you get less for the money you pay these days.

PAY $$$ for PDI? DAMN! When I was working on these thangs, PDI was PART of the price. How can you sell and deliver a car doesn't have half the lights working and with under/over inflated tires, etc... not to mention accessory upgrades and installs... sheesh. I worked on BMWs, ACURAs, Hondas, Mazdas, Volvos, Chevy and Fords... and in dealerships IN NYC!!!

Sounds like those dealerships where you unfortunately picked up your 8's, aren't that concerned about QC. Shame. Hope the owners know about it and fix that... I know the ones I worked for would.

Regards and peace.
