First Service with Mazda

I've had my 2005 8 for 5000 miles now, so it is going in for it's first service. I've been very happy with it so far. We'll see how Mazda service compares with the Honda dealer in town. I didn't have to wait to get dropped off at work this morning, so that was good. Although, I asked for a loaner for the day and the service manager said they didn't have the insurance for that.... right.

No major issues, just a few minor ones have come up. We'll see how many are addressed and fixed by the dealer. If they fix 75% of them I will be happy, 100% and I will buy another mazda!

Issues:

1) Brake squeal ( of course)
2) flooding TSB (I asked the for the new starter/plugs/battery) the service manager said he wouldn't do the battery unless the car actually won't start, but will do the starter and plugs if mine hasn't been updated. We'll see what happens.
3) ECU update, I said I wanted the newest one just because, he said they see which one I have and possibly update, the car is running fine so no big deal.
4) Clutch pedeal squeaks when pressed, easy fix I'm sure.
5) At delivery the guys couldn't hook up my driver side floor mat for some reason.

They are also rotating the tires because I want these ones to last as long as possible. I think I am going to get a winter beater and not put winters on the rx8. It makes sense in so many ways.

I will report back at 3:30pm EST with the results of my first service.

Typically dealers don't give loaners for that reason. They normally give you a coupon for a rental for up to a $30 value.

Don't expect too much with the brakes. They won't squeal for a few hundred or so miles, but it will be back. It is just the nature of metal rubbing metal. Brake harder is the best solution.

I believe they just fed you a line there. Everytime I have gotten a rental they have taken my insurance information, if I wreck it, my insurance pays for it.

I'm taking my 06 in today. I got a letter from my dealership stating that Mazda notified them that they needed to perform a full inspection of my car and its electronics and also to make sure it was starting up good and strong. They are also to replace my spark plugs. I thought this was odd since I've only had my car for a little over three months and have about 3500 miles on it right now (and going up around 350 miles per week now that I can park at work). I'm not complaining since everything is free.

I can have a free loaner from the dealership if I want it. They offered me one so I could just drop it off and go to work, but since I am off work at 1:30 I said I would just bring it in at 2:30. I was told it would take over an hour and I could have a loaner. I was beginning to wonder why they were pushing the loaner car so much! I told them if it took longer than until they closed at 6 p.m. I would take their loaner and get my car tomorrow. Of course, that then cuts into my car washing time.

They seem to offer me a free loaner everytime I bring it in for something.

They were supposed to replace the spark plugs just before they delivered the car to you (new policy starting this year). They probably missed that step. Several other people have posted about getting a call to bring their new 2006 back for spark plugs.

Well it's almost 1 and I haven't been called yet to tell me that the mechanic crashed my car into the side of the bay and that I wouldn't be getting it back until next month, but it is still early.

Hopefully my plugs and starter are getting replaced right now, not because I need them done, just because I like to get full value out of my warranty. Now Bunnygirl, why are they being so free and easy about rentals with you? Have you dated any of the service staff? All of them?

Under the terms of the warranty for 2004-2006 RX-8s, Mazda is supposed to provide a "loaner" when your car is in the shop for warranty repairs.

my dealer has also offered me a loaner on both of my visits. as usual, this seems to be an issue that varies from dealer to dealer.

oh but i did, in fact, date all of the guys in the service department.

They did replace the plugs when I got it. That is why I thought it was odd.

LOL. Nope. They even offered me a loaner when they changed my oil and put on my license plates. Their service department is great! When I was getting the extra key for my neighbor so he could shut off the alarm in case it went off I ordered the transmitter without the key, since it was believed it would work, and it was cheaper than getting it with a key. They gave me a discount on that. Then, when they couldn't program the new transmitter without having a key to go with it (didn't work using my existing keys with it) they ordered the key and didn't charge me. Then, when I brought it back to be programmed when the key came in they didn't charge me the programming fee for my inconvenience of having to come back! Also, since I ended up getting there kind of late (bad traffic due to a fatal motorcycle accident on the freeway) around 10 minutes before the technicians get off, they had one of them stay and program it for me anyway! I just love my car dealership!!!!

Very odd! You need to ask them why they did the second replace. Let us know what they say.

Just posted a "Good Dealer", but since also relevant here:

Brought in my 3k mile old '05 Shinka for its free oil change and they replaced the driver's side tailight (condensation) and front cup access/armrest (partially broken slide retaining clip), under warranty and no questions asked.

I already have the new starter and plugs as my VIN is sufficiently current. No other items need addressing. Motoring happy.

They changed my plugs because Mazda notified them that they didn't send the new better plugs with my car at delivery because there was a huge backorder on them and they ran out. So, at the time they did change my plugs but not with the ones that should have been in there. They used the older ones. When I had the plugs changed today the ones that were supposed to go in there still hadn't arrived from Mazda so they went and stole them out of the Shinka on the showroom floor.

How did you swing the free oil change? Did I miss something in my warranty package?

Wow, you are lucky you have such a nice service department. I had an appointment with the head service tech at 1230 and they said he was leaving at one. When I got there at 1230 they said he just left. I was very mad because I know the guy was just trying to avoid me. He had told me that the body shop did a bad job on my car. The next day he told the insurance agent it was fine. The next day when I went to consult with him why he changed his mind, he blew me off. They said he went on vacation..

Well, they didn't change the plugs or battery, which I am a little pissed off about. But, the brakes aren't squealing right now, so that is a plus. They saidey a that it already had the updated pads and that they just applied a compound to the rotors. I don't know about the pads, but there is something (white grease look) that I can see and they aren't making a sound right now.

There is a little scratch on the trunk that I didn't see before, I'm not sure if I happened at the dealership, so I can't say anything, but it's still annoying, because you never know.

My floor mat is now attached which is nice. They said I have the newest ecu patch, but it was an 05 that I got in April, so I doubt that were applying the patches before that when it was sitting at the dealership, but maybe they were.

Oh well... they did wash my car, or at least wet it lol, so that was nice.

Yes, but with my dealer that means a trip to the Enterprise agency up the street and a 30 minute wait to get into an urban people-mover. I'd sure prefer that they keep a half dozen MS Miatas to loan out on the spot.

Dealers often forget to install the hook that keeps the mat from sliding around. It's in the glove box or center console during shipment.

It was part of the late March incentive down my way. First and every fifth oil change thereafter no charge.

I get free ones from my dealership. They had a deal when I bought my car that for $100 (regular price $299; got another discount ) you got free oil changes for as long as you owned your vehicle and they will do it every 3000 miles. They actually did my first one at 1900 miles about a month ago and in about three more weeks I am due for one again.
