so I've been driving around since Saturday, and this morning was the first time I saw another 8 driver, on 270 around Gaithersburg, in a nice red one. Just exchanged little nods, but you really do feel like part of a community in this car, or any other RX model, for that matter. Made my commute a little nicer. . .

:D Yea, it's always nice to see another 8 owner. It seems the appropriate thing to do these days is give a thumbs up and a big cheesy grin, like this ---- > :D

I always try waving, but no one waves back. I even pull up alongside, and still no response, not even a look. What's with all you middle-aged guys not waving back to us youngsters? Maybe it's just me....

It's prolly more about enthusiasm level and how the driver in question came to the 8, rather than age, kbull. Try giving the horn a toot and then point at both cars while grinning, so the person gets your message. A little pantomime makes your friendly intentions clear and enhances the encounter.
I've only encountered a few RX8s where I live; I waved and they all waved back, except for this one time: I pulled up next to another silver RX8 at a stop light... the woman in the car didn't notice me at first but eventually she glanced over and I gave a friendly wave and nod. She nodded back, but with a slightly puzzled look on her face.
So I then said, "Nice car".
She smiled and replied "Thanks".
Then we both drove off. It was obvious that she didn't even notice that I also had an RX8! Perhaps my charm was that distracting :D

i passed a new owner yesterday at around 115 (i was in a large hurry, i dont usually drive like that around town) and he just kinda looked at me in awe as i waved, it was pretty funny!
i notice that the 8 owners just fly bye so you don't have time to waive ....they just want to race but i seen a few that are cool and waive...i see more and more every day its cool though

If you see a black one with VA tags it might just be me. I work in the Rockville/Potomac area off of 270.
There is a titanium gray one that I bump into once in a while on the way, and back to VA from work. I remember the first time when he honked at me, I thought I cut him off or something... ;-) I only had the car less than a week, so I was not used to the attention... I am now. :-)

Not sure if it’s just me, but RX-8’s seem to appear everywhere nowadays here in Houston.

i get thumbs up from fellow youngsters in other cars... most of the 8 drivers where i live are 35+... and i tried driving next to them and smile or wave.... no reaction from them, one of them even seemed intimidated by me (e.g. dun like seeing a teenager driving the same car as them)

What? I'm 38, a few weeks ago saw a younger guy (28?) in a silver RX-8, caught up with him but he pretended not to see me. Instead he tried to race away, lol, well, "tried".. he succeeded. I just didn't feel like getting another ticket that day.

See? We hostile drivers are everywhere! Only ONE RX is tolerated on a road at a single time...others will be crushed and pulpitated (is that a word?)!
*pulls out dictionary*
"Pulpitated: The smash into a pulp, the past tense of to pulpisize."
See? I knew it was a word.
*scampers out the back door*

Not a problem here.
Four weeks into ownership, and I STILL have yet to see a single, moving RX-8.
I think you're all BSing me. You're really all Mazda employees engaged in the most elaborate, well-conceived scheme ever to make me buy the only RX-8 prototype ever constructed.
Well done guys. Nice car. Make some more, OK? It's lonely out here.
Either that or affenage is hording everyone down in the West Chester (Philly) area.
I get the funniest looks when driving my 8, some people just stare or give me a thumbs up! But one day some guy asked me if my husband let me take her out for a spin..... WTF! I said no I'm not married and this beauty is MINE!

I only know of three RX-8's on the road in Charlottesville including mine. 4 or 5 at the dealership though. Frankly I enjoy having a fairly unique car though so I won't *cough* go into *cough* how I got mine for just a hundred over invoice *ahem*.
My first on the road rx8 to rx8 encounter was when I spotted loco4rx8 zipping by on 250 East last week and I decided to catch up and give him a wave. Of course his rx8 is blue as well which reduces the uniqueness of mine. But I guess it just means he has great taste. Heh.
