Question fender strakes kinda heavy yeah?

hey 8ter's,

just put the fender strakes on my 8, they feel kinda heavy for those vents don't they? i mean after taking the vent's off, it felt like the little plastic clips were barely holding the thing on...kinda worried with the extra weight of the strakes they might go flying off on some bump and then i would just lost like 100 dollars worth of plastic and metal lol. anyone have any bad expieriences?

The guy who does RX8strakes had some fall off, hence his enterprise. I just made sure the tabs were pushed back when I remounted the grills.

Did you get the genuine Mazda strakes or the Stainless steel from the guy in England? I believe the stainless steel ones are much heavier than the aluminum strakes that Mazda sells.

Heavy?
Yes!
Fall Off?
No.
3M Tape and screw on the OEM Strakes will hold them very nicely.

you are using the tape aren't you?

Yes, I'm sure the stainless steel ones from England are heavier. I just received mine - they're beautiful. But I'm not sure if I'm gonna install 'em. They're a) heavy, and b) I'm not sure, but I think they might be "permanent" because of the double-sided tape. Would hate to mar the paint should I decide to remove 'em.

3M Tape removes easily with dental floss....
I've done it many times with NO ill effects (or scratches).

The tape is already affixed to the back of the strakes as I recall. So, if you didn't peel the backing off the tape before reinstalling the grilles, you didn't follow the installation instructions. Take off the grille, remove the tape backing and reinstall the grilles after you clean the areas of the fender where the tape will stick. Use a strong detergent or alcohol to remove any wax or grease.

I have the Mazda ones (no tape). Over a year on the car, eight or ten autocrosses, a few track days, and no problems.

the mazda (OEM) strakes have tape, as Go48 mentioned. Not suprising, since even stuff like sideskirts use tape

I just ordered some sunlight silver ones today. He has sold 336 items. I'm sure alot were fender strakes and he has 100% positive feedback. *Hints* why I went with him, plus you're saving alot of money!

Heres a link to his Ebay store: http://stores.ebay.com/RX8strakes

Got mine from Howard (england). Excellent fit, shine & quality. Plus they reached me (RI) faster than ANY other item I've ordered from the States. If you're in any cold/rainy climate, go w/ the stainless.
