Fender Strakes Directions Wrong

I received my fender strakes (Air outlet garnish) and installed them today. There was a major problem with the instructions. If you use the hole and row on the Air Outlet that are called out in the directions the strakes do not lay flat on the car surface for the two sided tape to adhere. I found that by moving the upper garnish (strake) on both sides from 2nd row, third from the front side, as the direction state, to 3rd row middle hole the strake lays down perfect and fits the template. Also move both bottom strakes from 2nd row, and second from the front, to 4th row from the bottom, middle and they will also line up perfect. Anyone who had them installed at the port, might want to check to make sure they were installed properly. If you install them per the directions, there are large gaps between the the surface of the car and the strake, that can't be filled by the two sided tape. It also looks very cheesy. When on right they should be tight on the air outlet and very tight to the surface of the car on both sides of the air outlet. Hopefully the ports caught the problem and deviated as I did. This is mainly for those of you trying to do it at home by the direction, although the same directions were probably in all the kits. They look very sweet when installed properly. I installed the Aluminum Door sill strips, and they look greay too. Good Luck.

Hi,

Yeah that mis-alignment was mentioned in another thread. That accessory is not installed at Port (dealer if you pay), so I ended up like most on here installing them myself. You do have to shift one of them to get the right porportion and fit.

If the look fine they are probably right. I tried quite a few different places, and none but the right place looked fine. So I agree don't go pulling off strakes that look good to check them, they are most likely right.

If you really used the Loctite (I did) then it is too late anyway. Mine lined up perfectly following the instructions -- but I must admit I had to re-read the instructions several times because the alignment was wrong. I finally realized that the instructions counted the tiny little part of a diamond as one of the places -- by counting that diamond and moving the strakes eveything lined up perfect :D I think this is the best appearance mod to come out so far (not counting the appearance and rotary accent packages)!
