CO Failed engine replaced with 09' newer?

I'm trying to buy an RX8 but was keen on staying with a 2009 or newer RX8 I told the dealer. He keeps coming back to me though with stuff 2006 and older saying the engines are all replaced with 2009 engines or newer, I have a heavy feeling he is B.S.ing me. Am I wrong? *Bad Guy Mazda of Lakewood, Colorado*

not to mention you cannot put a 09+ engine in a s1 (03-08) without extensive work, which dealers wouldn't do.

easiest way to prove this is to open the hood ... if you see a oil filter at the top of the engine bay .. it is an S1 motor.

the older cars may have had engine replaced since 2009(ie a 2006 got an engine replacement in 2010 so its a "2010" engine, but its a series 1 spec engine not a series 2).

Okay, thanks a ton guys! I told him to stick it about an hour ago because it didn't seem to get that I didn't want something older. Pushing for an 09' at the moment. Wish me luck!!!

technically it's an engine that was remanufactured in whatever year they likely did a crappy job in

He keeps coming back to you with '06 and older cars because there is only 1 '09 or newer vehicle available on the used market within 250 miles of Denver. It's a Black '09 with 20k miles on it in Colorado Springs. It's carfax report shows it was originally a Texas car, and that it failed the Texas Emissions Tests twice in 2012.
