Has anyone out there had the fortitude to hear the shift (beep) in fifth gear? ....? with even more cajones with the TCS and DSC deactivated?. The thought sends chills and thrills down my spine.

Rotary engines work great in airplanes, take off!!!

Yup, that would be me. I had the DSC completely off and was on an long stretch of highway with no one on it. 141mph was the indicated number when the beeping started.

felt reeeaaalllll nice as well. Still stable. Try a Buck 5 in a stock miata if you want fun though - white knuckle city.... 140 in the 8 was kinda a non event

I love this car. Just wish it had crazy horsepower, but the sexy side wins me over

Is there anyone here who would prefer a taller 6th gear? Cruising at 70mph requires 3.5k in 6th.... I overheard from another thread that the 2nd intake port kicks in at 3.5..(is that accurate). This car is the lst I've owned with 6manual... Least to be said ... I was suprised by the final gear ratio!

Yes, leave 1-5 alone but make 6 taller to keep the rpms lower whan cruising at 80-85.

And to the rest of this thread, beep in 4th but not 5th yet. 4th beep is 122 and fuel cutoff is 128 IIRC.

you're thinking of this car like a reciprocating engine, this is prolly one of the only cars where engine speed does not matter, hell 75 at 6000 rpm feels normal in this car (think thats either 4th or 3rd dont remember, too busy enjoying it ), and if you're worried about gas mileage...let me just say you did not buy this car for its efficient gas consumption.

Well I have redlined it in fifth with DSC on, but due to this forum's rules I cannot say why I couldn't check the speed. Didn't hear the deep, too excited
Dump question: has anyone heard the beep in sixth? :p :D

I'd actually consider lowering 2nd gear, it's too far from 1st and so there is a gap between them that makes acceleration not as fast as it should be.

Does the engine have enough power to get to the redline in 6th gear? I figure the resistance to be too great at that speed.

I apologize for the dumb question, but I live in CA and a few people have mentioned this to me (I hear people groaning already...)

They mentioned something about the top speed having to be legally governed at something much lower than the 140's that I've heard reached at top speed by a lot of people in here. Any truth to this?
