I think it's a motor mount on mine. If mazda says it's not, I'll go down to my local Rotary shop to get it properly diagnosed and send mazda a reimbursment.

I too had a really rough idle. Rpms would drop to 500 or so while idling. I would just have the fan on with no A/C and it is doing this.

I took it in to get looked at and they did recall...

My car failed across the board...but no new engine... Just new Coils, plugs, reflash, and CAT.

Have had the car for a few days since getting it back...

Still idling badly and dropping down to 500 rpms still... Can't see how motor mounts cause an engine to fluxuate in rpms.

Taking it back on monday.

Test drove (and eventually bought) an 04. During the test drive, I noticed that it vibrated quite a bit @ idle speed with AC on. They pulled it into service and noticed that it was in fact a motor mount. After they fixed it, I went back to test drive it again, and problem solved. Haven't had a problem since.

FINALLY dropped my car off this morning for this. JUST got a call back from the dealership and they're replacing all of the motor mounts. Motor mounts are on national back order so I'll have to drive my car around like this till they show up then it's back to the dealership.

Had my 04 in for the recall and also wanted them to check out the rough idle. Turns out my motor mounts were bad. The sevice manager mentioned they've had a few 8's in for this problem. Apparently they've re-designed the mounts, so hopefully we won't have this problem in the future.

they r supposed to change the passenger side bracket for the mount, that is updated as well. the entire repair makes a big diff, for those of u cursed with an automatic

edit....just went and took the time to read all 2 pages of this....ill explain the condition.

There is a TSB out for 04-05 rx8s regarding failing engine mounts. for the poseur automatic owners u feel a vibration when idling, for the true enthusiasts you feel a hesitation on accel under 3k rpm in third gear at first blip of the throttle.

the engine mounts have been updated and a revised passengerside engine mount bracket is changed as well. the old automatic mounts have a purple dot on them the new ones are orange, i forget the colors for the manuals bc no one complains about it in the 6 speeds. the whole R&R shouldnt take more than an hour, if it does ill get my 6 year old niece to help you

problem solved

This was happening to me when I was going to school. 6:30 AM to be exact.
I stopped at a red light and then while waiting my car started to shake. I first thought someone hit me.. Haha.. Hasn't happen in 2 days though. I also just bought my 8 last Sunday.

Went back to the dealership a few days back, motormounts were replaced. AND I CAN'T TELL THE DAMN THING IS ON!!! half the time...

HOWEVER, I'm still leaking antifreeze - thermostat housing is cracked and they will replace.

Squeaking coming from under the car..... - unable to reproduce...

I went and picked up the car and they were like 'we didn't hear it'. After driving it for less than a minute i u-turned and went back to the dealership. They got their mechanic out to listen to it and he goes "oh, that the throwout bearing"

Dun dun dunh!!!! like i told them this entire time.!#@!# *******.

They keep warning me that if they open it up and its caused by something else then i will accrue a charge and it wont be covered.

HOWEVER, it wasnt doing this before i had the 4206F recall and the engine replaced.
i was always told that they should replace that bearing every time the transmission is cracked open. Are they being lazy or what? I think this is total bs and my dealership is screwing me.

I noticed I have this problem too. I think happens when the ac is on, not sure I need to look into it more. Where do I find my mounts to see if I need to replace them?

my 2006 sometimes has a slight vibration idling with the AC on. Kinda wish it had the variable thrust plate like my 3 series had so the ac compressor wouldn't be turning itself on and off all the time.

Hey guys,
I had the same issue with my 8 last summer. I changed the coils, plugs and wires, cleaned the MAF sensor and started using premix. I havent had a problem since then and it feels like the car is hardly on anymore. I hope it helps someone!
