hey everyone! just bought my rx-8 two days ago! i bought a used rx-8 with only 4,000 miles on it. i checked the carfax and that came back clear. is there anything else i shoudl check? i got it from a dealer, so it can't be a lemon, right?
also, when i'm just sitting idle in my car with the engine on, and i depress the clutch, the engine produces a steady consistent noise, which goes away after i release the clutch. it doesn't sound bad, and it sounds like it could be perfectly normal. but that's what i want to make sure, that it's perfectly normal. i've never made a purchase this big before, so i'm just a bit paranoid. thanks!!!

The sound when the clutch is released is the throw out bearing, its a part of the clutch system. when you push the clutch in, the throw out bearing is no longer moving, there for it gets silent, that lovely PURR you hear is the renesis hard at work [or hardly at work].
In my case, i will find out tomorrow. I took my 8 in last thursday, and i showed him what i was talking about, he said it was definately NOT normal, and they will be dropping my tranny tomorrow. The service manager said it definately sounds like the T/O is going bad. Its the normal chattering, but ontop of that, it has a very annoying squeel..

Yeah, that's different, you have something besides the normal 'rollover' noise that the thread starter is hearing.
I know what you mean about the squeel - had that on a Peugeot I had in college. It turned out to be the transmission main bearing, not the throwout, but that wasn't determined untill they dug into it. Definitely an exception.
