Engine Noise
I've recently become obsessed with the rx8 and am looking into buying one, my dad once had an rx4 and said it was strange because the engine didnt make the tradition noise and it bothered him in some way, im just wondering if someone could describe the sound of the renesis engine, thanks!

I have heard it described as a swarm of angry sewing machines??? Dont know what that sounds like anyway so i could not tell you for sure, but i know it sounds awesome

it makes a whirring humming sound. I liken it to a space ship for some reason. It's very cool sounding.
If the sound is not deep enough for you, you can change the exhaust note for pocket change (~$600 range)

It sounds like all of the above, I will add though that when you are next to something that reflects the sound back at you, you can here the air as it moves though the intake, then the engine and out the exaust.
Like it's moving in a straight line through a tube at 100mph, some sort of devil flute from hell.
It took me about 5 minutes to get used to it, now it's my favorite sound...

When the car first arrived at dealerships, a salesman commented that it sounded like a "weedwhacker on steroids". I'm not sure I agree with that. I like the "swarm of angry hornets" description.

it sounds like the launch of a jumbo plane :p (abit exagerated but still)
nah really, it really sounds great. and it does feel like launching a plane when u're taking off with your rx-8.

chain saw is too gritty and harsh to describe the smooth purring of the rotary.
although in the upper rpms it starts to make a lot of noise. I end up feeling bad for running the car so hard.
