first of all, why would you want to use a 14+ year old turbo on your car?

you can't search to figure out how to turn off your traction, now you're asking this?

I gather you believe that a turbo is just tossed under the hood and doesn't include a single supporting piece of hardware, and even if it did, that all supporting hardware is identical for all turbos, including identical mounting points, identical clearances, identical flange sizes and bolt hole patterns, etc...

ANY turbo will "work" with the RX-8 if you have every single piece of supporting hardware that allows it to be mounted correctly in an acceptable location, allows for correct exhaust and air flow piping, correct wiring, correct oil feeds. Some turbo's might now have the most ideal flow characteristics, but you can physically get anything to 'work', given enough customization.

How much are you prepared to do?

Considering your traction control thread, I'm guessing the answer is "not much".

I do not normally say this, but I would not recommend trying any "cheap" route when trying to turbo the renesis.

When I went turbo I managed to stay very affordable and I used products developed for the RX8.

I am all for customization, but cheap directions end in cheap results.

Yeah I kinda figured that . I donno this is my first time trying to do anything like this. I have background in electrical, plumbing, hvac, but no automotive. I kinda figured that with all the rigging I have to do in my other careers I could maybe make something happen. I guess i just need to figure out what all I need to make a turbo work haha. like I said ive never done anything beside change brake pads cv joints master break Cylinder break booster pump and change oil. so Im kinda clueless

Go over the Major Horsepower Upgrades subforum and read every single sticky at the top. Then sit back and decide if it's something that you have the finances and energy for.

99% of people that start a thread asking about it never do it. Most of the people that do end up creating a part-out thread within 6 months and then disappearing.

You will spend more than your car is worth getting it turbo'ed.

The biggest problem is the exhaust manifold - how to plumb all those little ports to the hot side of the turbo.

If you make it short, there is very little room to work down there, so most designs bring it all up and forward into the battery space, then make another header to get it back to the exhaust system.

Just that little item will cost you thousands and many welding hours.

But I have good news!

You can increase your horsepower by 20% by trading in your automatic for a manual!

And it will not cost you all that much. It's your cheapest possible power increase. (seriously)
