Yes, I know they will sometimes look for 'minor' infractions as a justifiable reason to pull people over and look for other possible offenses.
I was pulled over on my way home from a night shift on St. Patrick's Day because of a burnt headlight, and the officer admitted to me he was trying to catch DUIs.
He didn't cite me for the headlight.
There's another one here in Missouri that I've heard about being used that way, if your wipers are on, the headlights have to be on.
I personally wouldn't do anything that would initiate a traffic stop.
Not because I'm worried about a citation as much as I wouldn't want to be taking an officer's time that he could be using to catch more serious offenders.
(Although someone else getting pulled over might possibly save me from another speeding
ticket.)

Thanks, the two main threads have been dead for months and it makes it hard for new guys to find it, despite, the site having a search bar.

Or in the case of that late St. Patrick's Day stop...save your life.
Kudos to you for seeing the sense in that stop and why sometimes cops make stops for "minor violations".

IF the coolant fans of an Rx-8 are not running for a few months, could that possibly damage the car's engine where it destroys the apex seals? My dealership made mentioning of fuel leaking into the engine and the spark plugs are continually going to have to be cleaned due to this failure. I believe the dealership forgot to connect the cooling fans on when they installed the radiator. Do I have a case bros?

If you had no cooling fans the car would have overheated quickly unless you live in the Arctic

Fuel leaks out of injectors...or maybe the purge valve....

Your dealer or garage seems to have some incredulous ideas....

I dont know dude, it is winter here but I asked my mechanic at the time are you sure the fans are off? At the time he said yes, something about them being off and the compressor and cat was mentioned and how the tailpipe smells like rotten eggs. Idk Mazda will confirm if he was right or wrong. Anyhow I will have them check in front of me.

Also I am not sure how they work, if they both need to be attached to be working but do the fans work unilaterally or when its plugged in they both fire up? Idk the dealer will tell me.

So went to Mazda yesterday and they showed me with a computer that the fans were already connected and tested them in front of me. Now..I dont know if they had to electronically turn on the cooling fans after they are connected but so far my car turns over more easily. Less crank. I dont know who was right Mazda or my mechanic but I feel better knowing the situation was dealt with and the car starts over a little better, "so far". In the spring though I am considering getting rid of it. Dying to get another compression test though.

Super gas (Ron 92) and Octane booster.

I'm from Trinidad and Tobago where we have NP gas (super 92) (premium 95). I was wondering if it would be safe to use the super grade gas along with a bottle of octane booster from time to time.

The gas won't hurt but the "octane booster" might, depending on what's in it.

Truth is: Skip them both. The only thing they will do is drain your wallet.

Ok sounds good, it was also recommended that I can use both super and premium per top half and half respectively. What do you reckon?
N.B super is a higher grade than regular in Trinidad. Regular is around 87-89 Ron.

Octane Boost is designed to lift money out of your wallet

If you read the fine print they usually say something like raises octane 1-3 points

That would be from 87 to 87.3 Now you likely see what the scam is

Buy the Premium...and you will be fine

I actually found one, that I posted about before, it boasts to bump the octane by 3 whole numbers (not points). Number 1 best seller on amazon...really good reviews. However I am considering using the super gas and premium gas together per fill up as I stated above.

Quick question guys. Can the rear shocks from a car with sport suspension fit a car with non sport (base model) suspension? Does the mounting points, ride hight, spring rate etc all match up? I don't know much about suspension.

My Rx-8 seems to be having a lag again in the crank. It was nice while it lasted. I really thought they lied putting on the fans, even though they were connected. Idk if I should even bother with another compression test. I really think the engine is dying.

Thank you so much for your reply. The handling or driving characteristics won't take a hit right? Just making sure that everything will work as intended.

Well I typed out some clever ****, but then the site found it necessary to log me in and ******* DELETE IT!

It was a summary of how important your battery is. Replace it with a Odessey and KEEP the old battery. Keep the Odessey between cars.

Basically if your using all your cranking amps and it is cold your car may not have enough for a good spark at startup. If you have a shotty battery, the coils will not be able to make high voltage efficiently.

Take a good look at the battery....

12v Goes in, Several Hundred Volts come out.
8V goes in, A little less comes out.
Wattage stays the same so
15V,1A=15W | 150V .1A=15W | 1500V .01A=15W
8V,1A=8W =/= 150V .1A=15W (This is just an example, not the actual voltage)

[QUOTE]
What is the Model Number, Ambient Tempeture, and when you pull the leads after a night WITHOUT STARTING, what is the voltage?

(Don't crank the car, dont open the doors unless to pop the hood don't use the keyless...., Pull the terminals, check the outside temp and wait 15 minutes then measure with a multimeter.)

New != Good......

I have had 5 batteries bad before they even hit the car. The RX8 is a electrical tyrant! AKE is a bitch by itself and it can drain a battery if your within 100 feet..... (mine does, and it is brand new.....)

What you are looking for is 12.75 VDC is fully charged.

Important Notes on the Battery....

Duralast is a reman/recycled battery. This is NOT a huge thing, but it is worth noting that is is not 100% pure virgin lead. Odessey is one of the only battery companies I know that use the Virgin Lead, and that is why they are more expensive, but you can push their **** HARD.

Duralast has the benefit of being a Autozone brand and you can go to an Autozone and exchange it without a serious isue.

35 is the important number. That means a Group 35 Battery which is correct for the RX8. My car came with a 26 which lead to issues with the electrical system till I went to the correct battery (3 days....).
Typically you want a Group 35-AGM (Absorbent Glass Mat) with Flat Plates (More surface area so better in colder starts)

My guess is that, that battery is not a AGM or a FP battery, but that isn't the end of the world. I believe 800 is for CCA if it indeed does 800 (not just a pass or fail number), but that means it is very important that the battery is 12.7 when you start. You don't have the benefit of a AGM/FP on your side, so you need to make sure that Alternator and charging system is working like it should and that it is leaving that battery at 12.5-13.1 at the end of a drive. (should settle at around 12.5-12.7....)

If something is off there, I would look into the battery and have it tested just in case. Any honest salesman will tell you, its by volume and incentive, not by quality over quantity when it comes to parts dealers... (IE factory incentives and better price margins means it makes it into the store, which usually means, inferior to the top of the market items that has low profit, so a store won't carry them)

Also any time you pull the terminals expect a rich mixture since the PCM needs calibration. Put it away hard and wet to prevent a flooding issue. 3-5K RPM quick burst, then hold 3k then kill it hot. It is a thing you just have to learn for your car. If your cat is going you can get a better feel for it because you can smell the damn gas.....(that is my trick...., also POPOPOPOPOPOPOPOPIOP coming from the tailpipe)
