I did a couple of searches but can't find what I'm looking for. Hopefully someone can help. My daughter drove the 8 to the beach this weekend and, just after stopping to fill up on the way home, the CEL came on. Car was running fine and it was minutes after filling up so I made an assumption that it was probably an evap sensor code caused but not tightening the gas cap. I own a Jeep that has a chronic sensitivity to this so I'm well aware of it.

Anyway, I disconnected the negative battery cable for a little while to clear the code and now the CEL is off and the car is still running fine (at idle, haven't driven it yet) but now the "DSC OFF" light is on solid and the traction control icon on the speedo is lit up solid and I can't make them go off. All the manual says is to take it to a dealer if this happens. Is there anything I can do or check on my own? She said the lights were not on when the CEL was on and all I've done since then was disconnect the battery, wait, reconnect the battery and start it up and let it idle to see if the CEL came back on.

Just found the following, finally, after more searching. If it's in the manual, it must be under disconnecting the battery as I didn't find any mention of it related to these lights.

"Jeez......................turn the ignition on but don't start the car. Turn the wheel all the way to the right and then all the way to the left. After that, turn the key off wait three seconds and start as normal.

You have to do this each and everytime you disconnect the battery!

For the OP.................in the 05 manual, it's on page 5-24 right below the DCS/TCS indicator light section.

I referred to the pages using the index for "DSC Off" and didn't see it before I made this post. I wouldn't have expected to find such a strange procedure in the manual, though, so I wasn't really looking for it. It took me several searches and a lot of clicking and reading to even find it on this site. There are a couple of places in the manual where it says to take to dealer if this happens and I stopped there. Makes sense to just be a reset of some sort given all I did was unplug the battery and didn't move the car.

I wasn't giving you any crap about it, because you searched and found the answer as opposed to the previous person. I was just informing you where it was in the manual.
You wouldn't believe how many times we've answered this question, and that was my problem with the first person.....took no initiative unlike you. There's loads of info on this site and for me.....it's been an invaluable source as I am no "Joe Mechanic", but I have learned a whole bunch!

DSC light is going off even if you drive the car a bit and make some sharp turns.

No offense taken. I don't know how old some of you are but I remember when nobody knew what the internet was. I'm now a member of a forum site for every vehicle I own (Mazda, Dodge, Jeep, Harley Davidson) and the information is priceless. It's sometimes just a challenge to find it. I always look on the sites for info before going in for service. Not only saves time in the long run but usually saves money. Then we turn around and spend that money on mods we've learned about - LOL.
