I've had the car for 2 weeks, and a couple of days ago I noticed a ton of steam rising out of the engine bay. Scared the hell out of me, because I thought it was the engine. Turns out a rock must have hit off of the tire and busted my air condenser.
I took it into the shop 2 days ago and the woman said it wasn't going to be covered under warranty, but it was going to cost $1,000 to fix. I told her that it wasn't my fault...I've only have the car 2 weeks and it's Mazda's fault for not protecting all of the components in the engine. I told her I wanted to talk to the sales representative for Mazda in the area regarding this, but she said she would talk to him instead. Low and behold, an hour later she called up and said they would warranty it! I couldn't have been happier after hearing that.
Mazda seems like a very good company that will go above and behond to help you out (this is proof in itself). That, and the fact that they just extended my warranty an additional 10,000 miles (as well as reprogrammed the PCM and checked the engine), really tells me that this company stands behind it's vehicles.
BTW, I highly, HIGHLY suggest you purchase racing beat's condenser protector for 80 bucks. I just bought one....it's worth it! might end up saving you a lot of money.

Wow. I think you're the first to get it done for free. No doubt due to you having bought the car so soon.
Actually, I didn't even buy the car from the dealership I had it serviced, and the car I bought had 33,000 miles on it!
They really hooked me up because I got the sales rep involved, and I'm sure he didn't want to have me calling him up and yelling at him regarding the poor design of the engine bay.
I dodged a bullet, that's for sure. I still can't believe they warrantied it!
Mazda now puts a condensor protection screen on the cars. Mine (March '06 build) came with one. Doesn't look as aggressive as Racing Beat's, but it's something. There's a TSB on the screen, but it makes it clear that it's not a freebie.

You can't see it, can you? I mean, does it really matter what it looks like? It's hidden from all eyes (isn't it?)
Congrats Husky on a win for the 8 owner!
As previously said they arent supposed to cover it under warrenty but I'm sure a few factors weighed in. One you having just bought the car and two the dealership I bet was hoping to give you good service in hopes of having you come back to them for any following service. I do this all the time at my job and I make a point to tell the customer "We arent supposed to do this but....." toss in a small fib or stretch of the truth of "..your so nice" "..just this once" and sure enough the customer will usualy come back because I was so nice and went above and beyond for them.
Bah this reminds me I need those damn screens grrrr
Wow, props to Mazda for covering it.
My district Mazda rep refused coverage over the phone and in response to a letter I sent him.
I sued them and they paid for it and bought me RB screens
Really?? Wow. I'm sure it's situations like yours which made the sales rep decide not to make me pay for it.....they didn't want another legal headache.
Anyway, my opinion of this mazda dealership went through the roof. My dad used to have an MPV he bought from there, and said they were a total ripoff.
I believe they see me as a new customer they can milk over the next 5 years, so they wanted to make me happy to ensure I would remained a customer of theirs. And they're right: if they didn't warranty it, I probably wouldn't have dealt with their service dept anymore.

Thanks man! I'm glad my first experience dealing with Mazda was a very positive one.
And Yeah you do, regarding the screens. I was only driving around for 2 weeks before this happened....I just bought them a few days ago. I'll install them as soon as they come in.
The dealer quoted me 800 bucks to fix it, plus the 50 bucks a day for the rental. Absolutely worth the 80 bucks for the screens.
