Clutch

Does anyone get a "squeeky" noise coming from the engine area when their clutch is not engaged? I tend to put my tranny in neutral when I'm stopped i.e traffic light, or anywhere else that's going to take a little time. I hate "riding" my clutch. Anyway, I noticed this squeeking noise when I pulled up to an ATM and was making a transaction. It's not that obvious, but it's noticeable to me. It's getting on my nerves, who's to say that it won't get worse.

Nothing.

But you could take it to the dealer to see if your lucky and it's just the cable that's rubbing. Add some grease and your good to go.

Exactly, just a little touch will make it go away. Uhmmmm I guess that I'll take it to the dealer. It's been my experience that if something happens one time, it'll happen again and it may get worse.

Thanks boyz

i've dealt with numerous throwout bearings in other cars, and the part i hate the MOST about it is....

...the trasmission has to be moved and you have to pretty much take the clutch apart/out to repair it. It's not a simple "squirt-it-with-oil" and be done kinda thing.

If it's going bad they can fix it under warranty...but if it's not going bad....that sux. Might just wanna turn the stereo up.

I also have this exact same squeak... dealer said it was the pilot or throw-out bearing. I can't say for sure when it started, but I'm guessing around 34,000 miles.

Are you sure the this should be covered under warranty? I was told by my dealer service dept there was a mileage limitation of 12,000 miles for parts of the clutch, and that he would talk to the rep about it to see if they could cover the cost or somehow split the cost with me.

Anyone else had theirs replaced at no cost or otherwise?

I don't know. I know I was told by my dealership (having a clutch issue off and on, especially with cold temperatures and cold car) that since I complained about an "issue" before the mileage limitation was up, then mine would still be covered later if it really does become a significant problem that needs replacing, since there is now a documented complaint on file that I was having them check, even though they said my issue wasn't out of spec at this time, and was still "fine."

Since you have that many miles over, I'm sure they'll consider it a wear issue and not a defect and you'll have to pay for a replacement if necessary.

a little off topic, mea culpa..........but my transmission seems just sorta "notch-y" now that cold weather is approaching. Is this normal?

I come from a Miata (which had a great tranny) so this bothers me?

I took in the TSB about the release bearing and told them that people with the "hard to disengage" complaint have the same symptoms as me starting out. The guy wouldn't even agree to check if the bolts were loose... but it's the least of my worries at the moment. if you're interested...

Yes.. but i'm understanding that this bulletin is referring to a squeak when the clutch is depressed, meaning pushed in, meaning disengaged. My "chirpy" squeak is when clutch is engaged, (foot not on the clutch) or just at the end of letting off the clutch....whether idling or driving. You can hear it in enclosed garages when going slow in 1st. When clutch is pressed in, it stops. Also stops with just a small tap of the clutch.

Did you have some repairs done, based on that TSB?

I am going to get some repairs done based on that TSB.

However, when the bulletin says "when depressed," it's probably referring to the motion of depressing it.
