Chopped cat or muffler?

Owned 3 Rotary cars now, two 7s and I've had my 8 for about 3 months now. A buddy of mine says Strait piping my exhaust would have a hugely noticeable effect on my power, as well as noise output. I'm not concerned with the noise so much, I love loud cars. Question is, is it worth it at all to chop one or both of them off? Will the o2 censor flip a bitch and keep my car from running? Is it a plausible semi0decent alternative to upgrading to a Greddy exhaust kit?
Living in Eugene, Oregon I don't have DEQ to pass, so there are no legal issues with doing this.

a midpipe/gutting your cat is one of the easiest/cheapest mods for hp but not huge. yes your car will run but most likely throw a cel. the rear o2 sensor is just for emissons and the cel can be masked with a cobb access port. in the future please search as this has been beaten to death.

btw welcome and pics of your cars

Why chop it? Why bother cutting those pipes and the o2's might be an issue with the check engine light will be on all the time. Anyway, just get a loud exhaust and be done with it.

gutting your cat or using a catless midpipe usually gives you a check engine light (cel). some guys have not gotten this with some midpipes but its rare. using a cobb access port you can mask the cel from not having a cat.
you can buy complete exhausts with a midpipe for $500 and can find used ones for sale here even cheaper
