change in gas gauge after M flash
As I wrote in another thread , I have not noticed any changes due to the M flash..
except this one:
a change how the gas gauge moves.
Look at the picture.. the first time I was scared.. after 10 miles the needle shows 1/8th is already gone.. I used to have up to 65 miles by the time the needle was there.
I've observed this in 3 tanks now. It definitely changed, not sure whether *because* of the M flash but definitely *since* the M flash.
Anyone else experienced this?
-Peter

Mine has been pretty linear the entire time, I bought mine before 9/6 but still don't have the L or M flash.
What I mean to say is, mine resembles the 2nd chart.

ptiemann, thanks for pointing this out. I noticed a similar change in the gauge behavior but didn't connect it to the flash update. Can't say that I correlate exactly to your chart, but definitely lose about 2 ticks worth in the first 10-15 miles. I actually pulled over to check for fuel leaks the first time I noticed. The next fill-up I actually let the car sit a few minutes after the click-off to see if the tank might have had an airblock, but it was full.

Mine looked like the one on the right in July 2003 and it looks like the one on the right in late April 2004, even after the M flash. I've always thought that our concern over the bad mileage is aggravated by the fact that most cars' gas gauges work like the one on the left, jollying you along for a while until they tell you the bad news. The RX8's has been almost dead linear from the start -- the needle starts to fall if you take too long to back out of the garage!

This is crazy, mine is the exact opposite to your examples! Just switch the headers (factory and after M) and that's basically my situation.
oh except for the ending though, I'm not yet sure what I have after M. I usually have 210 for the factory.

Stuck in a love triangle
I cantbelieve your gas gauage was telling you that you had 100 miles at 3/4 full and then finishingat the realistic 240 at empty. You shouldbe happy now b/c before your Rx8 was teasing the hell outof you man! 400miles out of a tank from an Rx8!! That is verygood comedy. I amnot happy though that your mileage didnot improve after the M flash. I hopeyour case is rare

I have noticed a change in a similar fashion like you Peter, but since I have not gone through my first tank with the new M flash, I can not say if I have any change in the actual fuel mileage.
But one thing is certain: so far it seems the way my gas gauge behaves is similar to what you experienced.
I'm still pretty sure the mileage has indeed improved. We will see

My guage has always worked like your "post M flash" pattern. Drops like a stone at first, then goes a long time in the middle and speeds up at the bottom.
Post "L flash" I reach 270 miles before the low fuel light comes on.
