CanZoomer Stage I installed!

HOLY SHIITE MUSLIMS! I just installed CanZoomers Stage I

I must admit I thought the other guys were exaggerating about this mod, but damn! it really packs a punch! The install was not painfull at all (but I broke the wire clips) and when he says the ECU cover will be snug........well, lets just say this was the hardest part of the install. Anyway got it all done, reset the ECU (steering wheel all the way to the left and right) and took it for a spin and headed to AutoBahn 5 (READ NO SPEED LIMIT) with a Sh*& eating grin on my face. Never had a chance to check it out in 2nd or 3rd in town, but 1st got stomped on twice and I was grinnin like the devil himself!

Ok, Made it to the on ramp and waited till a huge break in traffic so I could start out from 0 and move it on through. I thought 1st was good before, but when I slammed second, I thought I was in HEAVEN! The pull in the high Rs is way beyond VTEC. It was truly amazing in 2nd, and well 3rd 4th and 5th! I took her up to a solid 130 MPH and held it a bit before I backed off (my snow tires are H-rated as I mentioned before so I didn't wanna push the limit too much). Anyway, long story short, EVERYONE, save your $$ and get this thing! I would have paid twice as much if I knew it felt this good.

Next is the Borla, and K&N typhoon (I expect them in about 2 weeks) so more to write then.

Re: CanZoomer Stage I installed!

Hey be careful about the K&N intake, there's a thread stated by Canzoomer not to add the intake until they do more tests and customers have had some problems with the combo.

RB's opinion

Also check Racing Beat's site. They have some interesting things to say about hp increases of intake and exhaust replacement. Different tone and sound levels are probably going to be the largest differences you can accomplish at this point. Mazda did more than a decent job.

TitaniumRX9MD,

I think that you are taking CanZoomer's comment out of context. He said that adding an intake with the stock fuel maps may not be a good idea because the ECU will just add even more fuel at the higher revs and make the air/fuel ratio worse.

He then made a comment stating that any mod that increases air flow (i.e. intake, exhaust, headers, etc...) should work with better with the tuned fuel maps.

Actually, he also posted that some people with the K&N have reported having problems, so he doesn't want people to use the intake with his mod until they've checked out that combo just in case. Don't take my word for it though, just search for canzoomer's posts and you'll find it.

I just read CanZoomer's recent comments about the K&N and rough idle. So I stand corrected.

How about Rotary Extreme's Intake, does it cause the same problems?

I will not take this opportunity to discredit anyone although it is tempting ( Or manufacturer for that matter )
Be careful with your money, that's all I'll say at this point.

In sufficient time the worthy products will be proven in multiple independant tests.

Does anyone know if there's a waiting list for the kleggspeed mod and whether delivery time promises can be met?:D

Actualy, it is all dependant on the the rodents breeding cycles...So far they have been going at it faster then mentalpimp can butcher the english language, so we have plenty of our "power units" to go around......

Klegg has been trying some new selective breeding techniques so there has been some talk of a stage III in the future around the KleggSpeed factory/breeding grounds. No official word on when it will hit the street yet.

What I have heard, now from 4 people, is that the K&N has produced consistent rough running.

How would turbulence have an effect on running?

An air cleaner/intake does not affect the electronics normally, so I am **speculating** it might be creating turbulence in the intake.
Turbulence increases air velocity. The MAF sensor reads air velocity.
Increased air speed would make it think that there is greater flow, and the ECU would respond by increasing the fuel injection duty cycle making the car run a richer mixture.

Anyway, pure speculation until we test with a wide band sensor.

I am told by one fellow who just bought a K&N that it is on the way here for us to test with.

Once I have some **facts** i will post them.

The reason I have requested people not use our Stage1 with it, at least until we can test this, is that we are concerned that a problem caused by the combination might be blamed on us.

Until we can see what is going on we would prefer to err on the side of caution.

I noticed today that my idle seems much smoother after hooking up the stage-1 unit last night. Were there many alterations for idle in there, or is most of the magic over 5k RPMs? (Certainly I appreciate the higher rpm magic than the smoother idle..)

I have the Rotary Extreme short ram intake, and have not experienced any problems so far with it and the CZ Stage 1.

Not specific to idle, but as the car in stock tune is running very rich most of the time, there is some plug fouling.

canzoomer,
I have been following this development with some interest, although, not to closely. I have several questions.
1) Does the addition of the stage 1 impact the mileage if you drive mostly under 5000 rpm?
2) Does the car still meet US emission standards after it is installed?
3) Is there a feelable improvement in the performance under 5000 rpm?
Thanks,
Ron

Model Starting S/N Ending S/N
2004 RX8 00000000 ZZZZZZZZ

Some customers may complain of rough or poor idling condition. The RX8's airbox N intake system is specially designed to eliminate restriction N create a smooth airflow over the MAF. If the customer has installed an aftermarket air cleaner or intake system, the airflow stream to the MAF element may be disrupted N cause an improper MAF signal. This erratic signal results in a rough idle condition. Also, aftermarket air cleaner elements are sometimes coated in oil to better filter the incoming air. The oil from this type of elemnt may damage theMAF resulting in a poor idle or MIL related to the MAF. If a customer complains of a rough engine idle, see the repair instructions below. 1. Check for aftermarket air intake system or aftermarket air filter element. (Replace with factory system if necessary.) 2. If rough idle continues, check for additional bulletins / M-tips, workshop manual troubleshotting. 3. Confirm repair
