Buzz sound around 6k-7k rpms
So, with the warm weather I have had the windows open on the car. I have noticed a buzz like sound around 6-7k. I did some reading around and the only the only thing I can see is that the intake system opens some valves around that area. Is this a normal sound that I did not notice all winter or is something up? Car is almost to 33K so it's still covered if it's an issue. It's an '09 BTW.

Don't have any good way to capture it. I can only hear it when the engine is under load. Out of gear you really can not hear it much. Throttle application has no effect. Best I can describe is a metallic or maybe hard plastic buzz that kicks in like clock work every time the engine gets in that rev range. Not sure if it does it beyond that much since the engine noise gets to loud.

that thread does not seem to be the same thing I am having. I don't think so at least. This is very noticeable when accelerating. Pretty much hear normal engine noise/exhaust till 6k and then the metallic buzz starts. Seems to last till around 7k or so. Then I think I can hear it again higher up in the range but engine/exhaust noise is to loud. I tried to record it on my phone but it really sucked.

Is your stereo on? Without hearing the sound my guess might be a bad ground. A bad ground can make a low hiss that gets louder as the RPMs get higher. I think it might be called an alternator whine or something like that. It happens in my car sometimes.

I have that marble in the can sound at that RPM range as well. I have cleaned the SSV, replaced the upper and lower intake manifold and it is still there. I just ignore it now. The car runs great so I'm not worried. It kind of sucks when it's a nice day out and you have the windows down. I only hear it during hard acceleration.

I guess marbles in a can would be one way to describe it. A lot of little marbles. I can really hear it when next to a solid surface like a concrete divider on the highway. Guess I will do a search about cleaning the SSV valves. What would be a cause of this on the S2? I thought this was only an issue on S1's.

Just watched a video on cleaning the SSV. Not a small task by any means. Would this be warranty work? Or would spraying some intake cleaner from above help if it's not real gummed up?

Oh well. Still love the car. It wont really suck until the warranty is gone. Need to find out the cause of the issue for sure. If it's a "fixed" issue, did I somehow cause it?

I only take my Eight in if the car is on fire or it throws a cel code. I had the dealer chase that rattle can sound forever and they replaced almost everything trying to get rid of it Noting worked! I just ignore it now. Don’t sweat the small stuff I say. My compression on my engine is perfect so, that’s all I can ask for right now. Make sure to post an update. Maybe they can find it and I fix on your car. If they do maybe I can do the same.
