Broken Clutch Pedal!!!

Well, I had to take my car into the dealership three days ago because for some reason when I depressed the clutch pedal, the car would not go into gear as it would normally do. So apparently my clutch pedal broke and that is what caused the problem. Now I am gonna have to fork out almost $800 to get it replaced. Has this ever happened to anyone else, and if so, what could cause this? Did I make the right decision by taking it to the dealership and having them check it out and replace it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks a lot.

Are you sure it's not the clutch bracket?

$800! damn, should've checked yourself if the metal bracket holding the pedal in place wasn't broken. It happened to me once, you'll be surprised how thin that thing is. I had mine welded back together though, now I'm dreading the day I have to replace the whole assembly.

depends on if its the pedal inside the car or the bracket in the trans... if its in the transmission then the price sounds "somewhat reasonable".

it should be covered under bumper to bumper warranty.

if you're out of it. hmm if they're talking about the clutch bracket, that 800 bux is a total rip off.

if they're talking about tranny, thats *unbelievebly* cheap.

you might want to talk to CRH (like what Razz1 said)

hey the same thing happened to me twice....do not get it fixed by the dealer if its the clutch bracket...they will just replace it with the same crappy material it's already made of.... I took mine to a local mechanic and had him weld me a new bracket all together. just have a Mechanic weld over your old bracket. Of course you will have to take it out tough and bring it to him...and O yea Charles is amazing

Same thing happened to me, but lucky for me i was pulling into VIR when it happened........I just borrowed tools and took the clutch assembly out and had one of the race teams weld up and fortify the whole bracket and put it back in, in the parking lot.....its ridiculous how flimsy that bracket is.....shame on mazda

I just had my entire clutch pedal assembly replaced b/c of squeaking. I think they replaced the cut switch too. Anyway, it made the car feel like new...its awesome! Not only does the pedal action feel WAY smoother and quiter, but it is shifting better now too. I think it could have been affecting clutch disengagement.
Was covered 100% under warranty.

So what % of the RX-8 do you think will encounter this problem? Will all eventually succumb to it? Don't get too rough with the left foot?

Are all models equipped with said "flimsy" material?

It's disheartening to hear what could be an overlooked designed weak point in our RX-8's.

Now I'm paranoid...
