Brand new RX-8 Owner!

Hello everyone!

I just bought a 2004 RX-8 GT Manual transmission, and love it! Just wanted to see what I need to know about this car, I know the rotary engine is a little difference with maintenance and such so I thought I would consult the experts! I look forward to being a part of this community.

Members have been asking for tips since the rx8 first went on sale. You could do some searching around and reading the sticky posts before asking such a basic question.

Here is one in particular https://www.rx8club.com/rx-8-discuss...t-here-202454/

Here are the pics off the auto trader post, I still have to take some of my own. Right now my ABS, Traction control, and Tire Pressure Monitoring System dash lights stay on, I'm not sure if they are just turned off or not working... there is a lot to learn :P My last car was a 96 Miata so this is quite the upgrade

You should have had them fix whatever is wrong before you bought it, unless you got it very cheap because of the problems. The TPMS is either your tires being under or over filled or the actual pieces in the wheel that monitor it are messed up. Check the air in your tires and see what it reads when cold(sitting for a few hours) it should be around 32.

and OP, since "Customer satisfaction is your dealers number 1 priority" you should make them check why your dash is lit up with those warning lights

haha right on, The ABS and Traction Control light weren't on this morning but came back on again this afternoon... idk I'll see if they can look into it. I got it for a great deal IMO so it was well worth it either way :P

If you don't mind me asking what did you pay for it? Did you get a compression test done at all?

Search the site I'm sure other people have had trouble with those lights being on, I remember a few somewhat recent threads. The best way to search is by google so here is a link for that Let me google that for you.

Car looks great, but make sure it's healthy. One thing you could try is disconnect the battery, give it a couple minutes, reconnect. You'll get all those same lights on again when you first start the car. Now without turning it off, turn the wheel all the way left and all the way right. then turn it off.

When you start the car again, the lights should stay off.

Be sure to read the thread in the first post by rx8soldier if you have not already. Generally people suggest to get a compression test before buying these cars but as long as you don't notice any issues with hot starting it should be relatively healthy.

Anyone know why the ABS and Traction Control lights are off the first time I start it in the morning, but after I drive it the next time I turn it on, the two lights come/stay on... I cannot find any similar issues on the search

haha ya I did! when did you buy yours?

and Loki, I tried to do this. is the engine supposed to be running when I turn the wheel? If it isn't it is next to impossible to turn the wheel without the power steering.
