A co-worker is getting married and told me he wanted to sell his Miata. It is a 2001, 5 speed with 38K miles and garaged since new - looks immaculate. Well I asked him how much and he said "oh I don't know - $8600 was what I was thinking". I bought it on the spot as it sounded like a great deal (and I think it is). I might could have gotten it cheaper and yes I love to negogiate but I hated to negogiate with a co-worker especially when I felt the price was great to begin with - KBB trade in value is above $9K and private party value is $11,500. I sure didn't need it (the wife and I already have 4 other cars between us) but for that kind of money I figured I couldn't go wrong.

If you buy a 3 and a cx-7 in addition to the miata and rx8, you can assemble your cars into a giant mazda voltron style fighting robot. Leave it to the japanese...
My first sports car was a '94 Miata, I still miss it. It was still running good when I sold it at 188,000 miles, although the top leaked a bit. The 8 is much faster and more engaging to drive but every nice day I miss dropping the top. My 325i convertible just isn't quite the same, its too cushy.

Wha'cha talking, Mikey? The Miata gets something like 25/30. That's practical! That and you can park them bad boys ANYWHERE!

I usually get around 21mpg in daily driving, 26mpg on road trips in my MX-5, but I have a lead foot. I am sure you could get over 30 on the old 1.6/1.8L with a more conservative foot.
