A big hello from Germany!!!!

Hey there people in the US and Canada, hope u doing fine and ur weather ainīt that sh..... like over here in Germany.

Well bought a RX 8 last week and Iīm very happy with it, besides of the very sh... gasmilage.

As u might know we got some nice roads over here with bearly any jams, but still after 550 Miles I canīt get my baby over 15Mpg and thatz the best she does sometimes I go along with 13!!!!
And thatz with manual transmission.

So anyhow, the RX 8 is the best car I drove so far... before that I had a 02 BMW 528....
But I allways wanted a Wankelengine(Rotary) and Iīm suprised over itz power.

Well I got a question over the nav system, r u guyz able to play normal dvdīz over it. And if how????
Cause that would be the cream on the cake for me.....

The other thing is, cause the RX 8 just came out last week there r no custom partīz available in Germany(((
So where would be the best change to find some nice body kids rims and good stuff like that.

Thx ahead for ur help.

And have fun with ur RX 8 u all

Welcome to the club, Darealk.

Hopefully you won't run into too many trollers and jerks on here. You'll quickly find most of us to be as passionate with our cars as you are with yours, so glad to have you with us.

Gas mileage? yes it's sh*tty. see my mileage log.. I've tried everything, to no avail. The only thing that will improve it is if Mazda steps up and issues a technical service bulletin with instructions to re-write our fuel-maps.
Actually, there is another solution--another member has come up with an ECU upgrade that increases HP and has slight MPG improvements.. His name is CanZoomer. He has a whole section of his own on this board.

Your question about the NAV playing DVD video--- nope, sorry, the optional NAV system will only detect DVD Navigation software made specifically for it. There is only one place that I know of that sells a system for converting your RX-8 NAV system to an AV-enabled tv tuner, although you will have to "hack" some wiring to install it. I think the place is called AVelectronic.

As for your last question, I'd throw that out to the appropriate regional RX-8 forum, here on this board...

Good luck, and congrats on your new RX8!

Be sure...

I gonna

Hmmm playing around on the ECU ainīt such a good idea for now and the next 2 years, cause of the warranty.
I rather pay a little more on gas(in Germany 1.50$ per Liter, which is 1/3 Gallon) than paying a new engine when mazda sais nope....

But anyhow over here customers got the right of sueing(hope I wrote that right) the company if the the gasmilage is over 15% of the companys saying, so I still hope mazda comes up with a good deal or some little gimmicks.

But a big thx for the hint with the nav, gonna look it up assap.

So long and ride on!

Welcome and congrats on your new 8...everyone must be staring at you around town! It's a fun car and yes the gas mileage is crummy...I get about what you do. I was at 13mpg and now up to 15 mpg. I keep hearing it will get better after 5000 miles or so. We shall see. I have the automatic. Lots of cool mods here in the states. me I am just adding strakes and a few small things.....hubby won't allow me to do much. Enjoy your ride!!

Yes I been speeding on the autobahn an Iīm quit suprizzed what comes out a 1.3 l engine....
Well my 1000 Km r soon over so Iīm able to say more bout the top speed but here in germany itz listed with 235 Km/H which is quiet a bit dissapointing.
My old car, a Bmw, had 200 Hp weight bout a half metric ton more and still came up with 245 Km/H.. we will c

Besides of that Iīm reeeeeeeaaaaly happy to have my 8, not only for the stares, but for the reaaaly good driving and racing.

Ooooh ans a little info, german autobahns brought down to 120 Km/H in gerneral, there just a few race tracks left(thx god 2 r right in front of my door)

Where are you at in Germany? I'm in Heidelberg if you'd like to go for a run sometime. Also, I seem to get better gas mileage when running without DSC (hold for 5 seconds)

My MT got 18.5MPG on its first tank with half city and half highway driving. I think it will improve as it breaks in.

Do you guys have '02 BMW 528 in Germany? Here in the US the 528i was replaced by 530i in 2001 with a slightly larger engine.

Weeellll....

Yeeeah ur right, of course it was a 530i...
But not to me, a 2,8Liter engine is a 2,8Liter engine no matter if they put an 1inch bigger header on it...
Or what do u think???

And well I donīt think that Schumacher is such a great racer, my fav is and was allways "Striezel" Stuck cause that dude won races in most all catagories.

Hey there Darealk,

I'm going to be heading out there to Germany in about a year or so. In the Spangdhalem area. Just kind of curious as to what kind of stuff there is to do out there? I've never been.

Back to the comment regarding the speed limit on the Autobahn, I travel everywhere at 180 km/h with no problems in the Rhineland (Cologne, Bonn, Duesseldorf). It is only near the cities where the speed limit comes down. You should come for a drive up here some time!

And the DVD problem. Data DVDs seem to be a different kettle of fish from AV DVDs, so unless the player is designed from the outset to cater for both technologies then all you get is one, DVD data. As the dual capability techonology comes down in price you will probably see more on the market.

And I think your attitude regarding mileage is great! Especially considering the price of fuel here in Germany. Those Americans have got it made, with alll of that Iraq oil flowing in now...
