Baby car? ......Absolutely.

Natalia, my 6months old daughter, loved the car. I changed my mind and bought a Winning Blue RX-8 with the touring Package instead of the silver SP. I test drove the GT, but you just sweat too much with the leather here in Florida. The additional grip provided by the cloth also convinced me. The car is fantastic (Understatement). Bought it on Saturday for MSRP and managed to put 500 miles. Power gets better and better with each additional mile. Natalia did not complaint once during the whole time. In many ways, this car is more convenient than a sedan. Let me explain:
· Open passenger side
· Open Freestyle door.
· Throw blankets or toys she’s playing with to the front seat.
· Take baby out and put her in the stroller.
· Grab the toys and whatever you need from front seat.
· Off you go
With the sedan you do not have the comfort of easy access to the front seats. You would need to open up both doors and go around the doors.
My only “problem” with the car is the low MPG. I averaged about 14 MPG from Orlando to Tampa, but then again I was driving between 90-100 Mph.

Interesting point! I was talking to a buddy of mine at work about the '8 (he has 2 kids, one about a month old) and he was interested by the concept of the RX-8 - a fun, driver-oriented car that is still practical for putting kids in. That's a really good point about the freestyle doors - never thought of that!

Speaking of, I just added a bunch of RX-8 kids' stuff to my T-shirt store - see the link in the .sig .

Same convenience of a minivan...the whole reason (besides fuel economy, handling, roll-over safety, looks, practicality) that we own a minivan instead of an SUV.

Hmm...great argument for the rx-8 over a standard sedan.

I understand the whole yuppie image thing, but why any thinking person would buy an SUV over a minivan is beyond my comprehension (unless they go off-road or tow). But that is for another forum...

Hmm...rx-8 equals same convenience as minivan...

Fairbanks had plenty of RX8 on the Tarmac. I saw a black/black. Not sure if it was A/T, though. Call them and ask for Mike Bogan? He's a new guy so he's trying to make sales. He'll give you a deal. Tell him George sent you.
Good Luck

PS: I wen't to ERAU also. AE

As odd as this may sound. My mother is getting herself an RX-8 also and will be turning over her Ford Windstar to me until I get a car of my own. It's just funny to hear that a minivan provides the same convenience as an RX-8. I'll point her to this thread later tonight for a good laugh.

Interestingly, my 4-yr olds have more legroom in my RX-8 than they do in our Hyundai Santa Fe. They use boosters in the RX-8, and we haven't gotten 'round to replacing the 5-point seats in the Santa Fe. Perhaps that makes a difference, but we'll see before too long...

Hey awesome quick review of the convenience factor. Hopefully when you were going 90-100 mph that you did not have your baby with you lol :D

Does anyone have a rear facing baby seat for the car?

I have been told by Mazda in the UK that the passenger airbag can only be disabled via a transponder mounted in their own baby seats.

My wife doesn't want to part with the £125 for the seat and prefers to use one in the back, is there any issues regarding fitting a seat in the rear of the car (given the angle of the base of the seat)

Also, I have seen mention of the "latch system" can anyone explain this to me?

Mine is a rear facing baby seat. I suggest you use the back seat for the baby. It is much safer.

Hopefully when you were going 90-100 mph that you did not have your baby with you lol
I would never speed with her in the car. Anyway. 90 MPH is the standard speed limit in EU and should be adapted in the USA. Not to dangerous here in Florida, just boring, long, straight HWY.
