Avoiding the recall - question
I'm completely satisfied with the way my 05 runs (w/23k). I've had all the servicing completed by our local experts to my satisfaction. I even "allowed" the dealer to do the heat shield recall without issue. BUT, what is the ramification if I don't take it in for the engine recall? Do I still keep the extra warrenty? What if the engine eventually dies in a couple of years while still under warrenty. Will they punish me for not taking it in now? It just runs too good to risk them touching it.

Scrape.....
I'm kind of in the same position, I find the less the tech touches it, the better it runs!
The problem is that the recall increases the amount of oil injected, and the only reason they would do that is they have found it is insufficient. The damage is cumulative, scraping the housing until the commpression is gone.
So, unless you are pre-mixing, I would get it done, BEFORE the damage happens....

I believe it said in the recall letter that NOT having the recall done in a timely manner could be viewed as improper maintainence, which would be grounds for not honoring the warranty on the engine.

I don't believe the DMV cares if you run the oil out your engine as long as pay the big bucks. Had a new Mustang and a new corvette that had uncomplted recalls. No problem. Play dumb with the dealer if you have warranty issue.

Emission recall is not the same as other kinds of recall. Emission recall is something that some states required you to do it.
and CA is one of the state that *requires* it, and I think NY requires it too. I did it already. I dont really care cuz I've been premixing for 3 months something. (Since maybe 18K miles I think, dont remember)

interesting question on the emission recall and the DMV....
here is PA we have to get our cars inspected yearly and along with that there is an emission test...I would certainly wonder if the ECU wasnt programed right it might flunk the emission test....and therefore not pass inspection...
