Hey all, I just wanted to take a quick survey from my fellow auto trans RX-8 owners. Three times this week after flooring it to pass another car in fully auto mode, my RX-8 has blown right past redline without shifting. The car correctly downshifts to 2nd gear for passing, but for some reason the tranny never shifts to third or forth--it gets stuck in gear!! No fuel cutoff, no rev limiter! I know instantly that something is wrong when this happens, the rev limit buzzer chimes in, but the car will not upshift on its own. To get the tranny to upshift I have to release the throttle to let the car slow below redline or put it in manual mode and shift it myself. Twice this has happen when I had the A/C on, but this morning it happen without the A/C on. Any other auto trans owners experience this?

No, but I have buzed it pass the redline in manual mode & the revlimter did kick in(I wanted to see if the pcm would over ride & shift the veh.) It did'nt

That's why the only cars I drive no are stick. Better fuel mileage, more control, and more fun... (With the exception of traffic... That's when a six speed becomes a pain.) I did how ever used to have a Grand am GT.. Auto.. It happen to me a couple of times too.. To the point with the car shut itself down cause I didn't let off.. I wasn't going to lose that race.. Anyway, took it to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrg.. So, my guess is the main computer.. I switched it out in my GT with an upgrade and it never happened again, but I only kept the car about 3-4 months b4 I traded it in.. The problem was intermitten so who knows.. Good luck my friend..

the tach is very.... liberal in its accuracy. i.e. its not. you hadnt hit the fuel cut so it didnt cut.

as for not shifting- sounds like it thought it was in manual mode already.

I havent had something that severe yet atleast but I've been noticing since I got the most recent flash that at times when I decide to gun it from a stop that it goes straight to redline and stays there for a moment or two before shifting into 2nd gear. How fast were you going by the way? I believe if memory serves 1st gear's limit is 45ish? 2nd I forget, 3rd is upwards of 124mph hehe.. 4.. um havent been able to drive that fast yet damn traffic and all that plus saftey bah!

That and check your tranmission fluid see if its low. In my old Aries Wagon anytime the car got stuck in a gear it was because I was losing to much liquid. Just a thought. When was your last maitence? For me if it happens once more I'd bring it in to be checked out.
