drop the v off the front and the h off the back of the name and what do you get? yea, a smart guy indeed

The gas mileage it being a 1.3litre is sad,,, very sad!

I forgot to tell them the moonroof rattles when going down the road while open.
Oh and the gas mileage is that of a 4x4 w/a 400+ size engine on the hiway.
So, yes it gets looks and compliments but apparntly w/many misfortunes.
Did i mention the gas mileage sucks?
Quit griping, you'd have known about most of this (gas mileage, uses oil) if you researched your purchase before you bought. Posted and just saw everyone was saying the same thing in response to the OP so I'll just leave mine to add to the backlash

Well if you were intelligent on any level you could've improved your gasmilage by porting out your engine. Just throw about 1/2 gallon of sand into your intake and let it go through your engine. The sand acting like sand paper will port your intake and exhaust. Make sure you take off your Cat first, otherwise the sand will get caught in there. Do you have any idea how much it costs to replace the cat? This helps with fuel economy and oil consumption. But of course if you would've found that out before you'd have no problems now.

tvtech3, bummer you have a car that you are not satisfied with. No matter what the make/model. You have unfortunately acquired one with problems and I can tell by your comments that you truly would be better off with a different car. All of the problems you are having are inherent in the RX-8 and unfortunately you got them right off the bat. This is is the first car I've ever had to get so much warranty work done on but the thing about it is, you have to be willing to deal with the issues and let Mazda do their work if you have the rotary bug. If you are not a rotary fan then you really will not want this car. It's a lifestyle change and you have to be dedicated to it's neauances.

A new engine is a good thing and it's warranted for 100,000 mi. and that's really not bad. I suspect that the person that owned the car before you did not know anything at all about maintaining the car, probably never took it in for maintenance & updates, ran it out of oil not knowing to check it often and was clueless about it's quirks. The looks tend to draw some in that don't really know anything about the rotary and they think just because it's a small Japanese car, it's going to get good gas milage... NOT! It is a high performance, small, 1.3 L engine that is an absolute blast to drive.

Sorry you are not happy with yours. I wonder what you would think about it if you hadn't had any of the issues.

This is strange. With that low of miles it seems to me the car was babied. This is not a car to be babied when you drive it. My car is a 04 model that I got in Oct '03 it now has over 75K on the original engine. I redline frequently and I've only had one problem that was thought to be the engine...and that turned out to be a coil went bad. I had an '88 RX-7 with over 120K on it so anybody who buys a car with a rotary engine needs to do the research on what these cars need. They actually are more reliable than people think...you just have to know how to treat them. As for the desire to go back to a Ford/Mercury...you can keep it. Sometimes it's noted that Ford is a major shareholder in Mazda and I always make it known my RX-8 is PURE Mazda! Good luck to you OP in whatever you get next...with that said I'm going to echo the sentiment of "you should have never purchased this car"!

easy on the Ford's. I can't speak much for their cars but I and several family members have owned quite a few of their trucks that gave 100k+ trouble free miles.

I can agree that the OP is either trolling, or really stupid. There's 3 types of owners I won't buy a used car from, and that's 1) ******* Fleet vehicles, 2) Old ladies, and 3) Ricers. The OP is 2 for 3, and I haven't ruled out the possibility that he's the ricer.

However, it's not fair to trash on Jeep like that. Jeep has produced some of the most bulletproof rock-solid vehicles ever created. Yes, their latest line of mass-market suburbs-only CUV's mostly suck, but most 80's & 90's Wranglers and Cherokees will take any abuse you can throw at them and keep going well past 300k miles, all while handling the ridiculous stress of off-road conditions that our RX-8s can only dream about.

Meanwhile, it's par for the course on this forum to harass AT owners who need engine replacements at 20,000 miles because they don't drive their cars "hard enough". God forbid that some people don't enjoy flooring their gas pedal at every stoplight when driving around town.

Well its plain to see i have stepped on many a toes here in my thread and well if you take it as me being a troller or whatever you wanna designate me as then thats your choice if it makes you feel better but the facts remain about the car i purchased and you can sit there and say because its a at that im scared of redlining it, well again thats your untruthfull decision as these cars leave the redlights so slow that i redline the car at nearly every stop light that turned green to keep up with the old ladies from the start that drive there crown vics and the like and there are just driving normally.

The rx-8 has good looks but looks dont keep it out of the garage nor make it go any faster or make it get any better gas mileage.

So as i drive the mazda 6 they gave me as a loaner while the rx8 gets repaired i like the way it takes off from the redlights that turn green and it has np at all keeping up and passing the old ladies and even in doing so the gas gauge doesnt drop at all or near as quick as it had a full tank when i picked it up and when it finally dropped to 3/4 of a tank i had put 90 miles on it and now i have half a tank and have put 198 miles on it so its going to get right at 400 miles on a full tank and thats driving it the same way as i drive the 8 so thats much better than the 220 miles per tank that i get with the 8.

Anyway go ahead and bash me all u wish and make yur false accusations of who or what you may think i am but the facts remain and they are just as i have posted in this thread

Im 43yo and shouldve known better as i am a business man and do alot of traveling and am in NO need to worry about if my car will get me to where i need or NOT and if so will it get me there without sweating all over a $1500 suit as the a/c will continually keep me very cool.
FYI - Mazda is owned by ford. like others have said. you simply did not research buying an 8 before buying an 8. gas mileage is readily available on 923472984729872 websites around the web. every car manufacturer that does mass production of ANY vehicle has lemons. its a simple fact. some people lose engines <20k miles, others on this board have no problems with over 100k miles. not only that but look at any vehicle. nothing is 100% american made or 100% foreign made. parts come from around the world from numerous countries to build 1 car in an american plant. all this boils down to is your inability to research a product before buying it, period.

You guys are like sharks in a frenzy!

tvtech3, may I suggest that you had valid issues but maybe your approach to the forum could have been more appropriately addressed buy soliciting help instead of complaints. I think this may be why you are getting bashed so much. Just trying to help you out.

Wow.... I can't believe I actually read the entire thread.... but I found it entertaining.....especially how people get all upset at the OP.... anyhow....human nature I guess....

To the OP: I guess you just made your own grave.... posting those comments in Rx8club.com was not so wise on your part.... but I understand that you have your point of view and I don't trash you for it... everybody is entitled to their point of view.... (is just that it was conveyed not so intelligently and to the wrong audience)...
As for the Rx8, it is definately not a car for you.... You either love it, or you hate it. It is not your average car, period.
Even though I sometimes worry about the overall engine reliability of the rx8, the more miles I put on it, the more I fall in love with it. Definately Mazda should get a lot more credit for what they've accomplished with this vehicle. It is a work of art.

True, the facts are all right here in this thread. You did NO research about the car and are now pissed about:
the lack of acceleration which apparently interferes with your compulsion to drag against old ladies;
the poor gas mileage which is well documented;
engine problems which could also have been a mitigated risk had you done any research.

While it sucks that you bought an 8 with a bad engine, you really could have protected yourself by simply gathering some information first. Mazda will fix the engine, then you should definitely get rid of it b/c the MPG and torque won't change.

Sorry SE, this one is a pretty obvious example of the new member that just screams "I didn't do any work before my purchase, and now I'm pissed about what I bought." Sometimes being nice is the wrong choice.
