air conditioning problem =(
hey guys. i need help =(
i live in houston texas and man it gets HOT down here in the summer time. Beginning of last summer my AC screwed up. I had to suffer through summer heat and traffic and it sucks. The temperature is rising again and summer is near.
The problem is whenever i turn on the air condition, smoke comes out from under my hood and it smells like crap, like really really hot water. Whenever i push the air condition toggle button and i turn it off, the smoke stops. Some people have told me that i need freon, others have told me that my compressor has gone bad =(
PLEASE HELP!

All that and you haven't even popped the hood to look? For a year?! My guess is that your compressor is locked up. When your A/C is off the compressor clutch free-wheels, but when you engage your A/C it locks the clutch to spin the compressor. If the compressor is locked up the pulley won't spin, causing your belt to simply drag over the pulley, likely creating smoke and a burning rubber smell. Get the damn thing looked at.

Could be a loose pulley. We had the same symptoms on my wife's old AMC Hornet shortly after the AC compressor was replaced. Turned out that Bubba didn't get the Woodruff key in the right place, so the clutch assemby was spinning on the shaft.
But, yeah, you've got to get it looked at. Find someone who knows how to open the hood.

I HATE SPEEDBUMPS!
If i were you, i'll have it checked by a professional mechanic, and let them fix it for you. You don't want to second guess what's wrong with it, just have it fix and enjoy the air con before the hot weather starts over there.

sounds like u have an AC line leak check it out, also quick tip after u fix it i was looking into oil cooler fans and a better regulator switch for the stock fan so it turns on at a cooler temp, they are both supposed to make the AC cooler so im getting both this summer.
