This had nothing to do with your resale value from Mazda's point of view. But it might help a little depending on what the deal actually turns out to be. Do you get some free parts when the dealer has you engine rebuilt or does MazdaUSA foot the whole bill. What does this mean if the car is not stock? FI? Nitrous?

This announcement had lots to do with making current owners quiet and happy while MazdaUSA announces the new improved 2009 model. The timing is no accident.

PDF buys you nothing. If you have a paper copy from MazdaUSA you are covered.

Anyone can create a PDF of any text they want.

Neither a paper NOR a pdf copy really means anything. All that really matters is that your VIN is under the specified range (and I think it covers ALL RX-8's) and that you haven't voided your warranty somehow with mods and stuff.

Does anyone know if this applies to second hand owners (or 3rd, 4th, 5th etc)? Also how would Mazda know I own the car now? I afraid the previous owner is probably getting the warranty package in the mail instead of me

I am a second hand owner and I got the package in my name in the mail.

I have also been into my dealership for some warranty work on it before
so they might have my info through their.

The paperwork states the warranty is fully transferable. The package also includes a DVD titled "Product update." Don't get too excited, my DVD was from 2005 and showed me how to check the oil. I was hoping for new information and a sales pitch for the 09 but ended up watching the whole thing. Only at the end did the production date show up. Another 10 minutes I will never get back.

swoope posed a good question. I had my engine replaced back in 2006 when it had about 52,000 miles on it (covered under warranty). So I am wondering how this affects my engine. does this start from the start of the original warranty or from the date the new engine was installed?

I received a dvd package in the mail with this news!!! I wouldn't have bought the extended 3 year 36k warranty if i'd known this, I wonder if i can get a pro rata discount/refund of the $2,500 warranty i purchased?

They can probably find out through the DMV.

no.... they just throw as many engines at you as it takes to reach 100k total.

Better then nothing I geuss... but not really a resolution.

You have to go to the Mazda North America site and register to make sure you get this kind of thing if you are the second owner.

Mazda is awesome

Mazda is awesome..

I got my letter today, with no warning whatsoever. I knew they extended the warranty to 60,000 miles for the powertrain, but never heard about the 100,000 on the motor..

All I have to say is, with the economy sluggish as it is, and auto makers losing as many sales as they are losing, it's awesome for Mazda to hook this up out of the blue..

Amazing.

I did it over the phone when I called to check on the warranty.

Gotten my package today. The DVD is nicely presented.

One instruction in the DVD contradicted what my dealer told me. The thingy about revving it to 3K RPM ...

1) In the DVD, it says rev to 3K for 10 secs
2) Let go accelerator to idle
3) turn off engine

My dealer told me to skip (2) and turn off the engine at 3K RPM after 10secs. Did your dealer tell you that?

Got my package this evening when I got home from work. I haven't been lurking around here much so it was a surprise. Very happy about this.

Listen to the video. I've had a salesman tell me the 8 flooded because it stores three gallons in the engine and for some reason...

okay so its Wednesday night and i've got the news i promised.

First is Monday Night i got an email from Jeremy Barnes who is the Director, Corporate & Product Communications Mazda North American Operations saying that he was going to be announcing the Warranty extension on Thursday morning but since he saw that the news was out here already he wanted to get the press release to us early.

So attached here is the press release which goes to the media tomorrow morning. It includes the info about 2009 RX-8s arriving at dealers , that they get the 8yr/100k engine warranty and that the extension is retroactive for all RX-8s.

I want to thank Jeremy for sending it to us early. He very much wanted us to hear it from Mazda direct before hearing it in the media. Im sure he will tell you himself but he has read the comments here and sent many of them up the chain. Mazda is very psyched to be able to provide this and put their wallet behind the Rotary and they are very grateful for the appreciation you guys are showing.

You may have just noticed i said Jeremy will say so himself. He'll be posting most likely Friday morning, and will answer as many questions as he has time for and is able to.

So as i said yesterday get your questions and your feedback ready because you'll get the opportunity Friday to basically ask/tell Mazda directly.

I hope it goes with out saying that i wish everyone to be polite with our guest- and remember he wont answer any questions about future product
