Maybe what you're really talking about is street racing, rather than real drag racing at a drag strip? If you are - then you, along with all the other street racers, are an idiot. Street racing is just plain stupid and dangerous, and no amount of lame excuses can justify it. You give real car enthusiasts a bad name, and it's the street racers who are causing crackdowns on performance cars and modifications. Keep it to the track and off the streets. Of course, if you're not a street racer, then none of the above applies to you, so you need not take offence! :D
Why not ask which car (7 or 8) you'd rather take to a track day, given motor and handling mods?

what exactly do you mean track day, and no i'm not a street racer, but i am a import tuner and I tend to thank that drag racing is very exicitng fun and exillerating and I'm just looking for advice from some advice on that, i also tend to thank that street racing is stupid especially since I was nearly hit by two guys doing it after a car show, now even if you like your track days and I like flooring down one stop cracking on those of use that do and by the way I know there is alot more to a sports car but also there is more than autocross and trackday so show us a little respect and stop saying that this car isn't built for it because it is. naybe you're the one who doesn't want to admit that there's more to a sports car than autocross and when have you ever heard of a part being illegal because of street racers most parts are illegal for other reason except in CA

I haven't heard of any crackdowns in my state cause of street racers. Now, they just arrest the spectators. You go 2_furious! Just DON'T race around other traffic.... Most of us can admit we race sometimes on the street. If you don't, I thin most are lying there as@ off. I have a 7 that I would rather take on the strip. Interesting poll 2_furious!

You have to be joking. Anyone that picks an Rx-8 over a FD for any type of Racing needs to get his head examined.
I love my Rx8, actually I like it more than my -7-, but its not going to beat the FD in anything other than comfort (the FD even gets better gas mileage).
The beauty of the Rx-8 is to give the average driver some very high limits. On the street I would rather race in my Rx-8 because its more forgiving and really inspires confidence, but again, on any performance test (braking, handling, slalum, skidpad) the FD will butt rape the Rx8.

i've taken off the light with a friend before to see who accelerates faster,on the street, but i don't speed off flying. it's about accel and i don't go over the speed linit but we're just having fun, the real power is meant for the strip, NOPI is a good place to do it they throw a good show

if i had the $ i'd have both, but i think that after a few more mods come out it will be a competitor if we had all the same parts available we all ready would be, almost ever car takes a few mods and some work, yeah stock the 8 isn't good but after a few mods that are already out we pack a punch compared to a 7 with the same mods it would probally be close.

If you are really interested in quarter mile then neither the 7 or the 8 are a good choice. You can go faster for much cheaper on different import platforms. So, shouldn't your poll include those?

Here's another news article that talks about street racers and what authorities are doing about it - mentions the Ontario bans on performance parts and a similar BC law.

2010 Prius - Miss the 8
In So Cali, the police will pull you over, cite you, then tow your car away for Illegal street racing for just reving up your engine at a stop light. For being a spectator, you can also be cited. No wonder everyone just races on the freeway these days. :P
I know the towing away thing because my friend got his car impounded for 2 weeks, lots of silly legal things, and finally got his car back.
Btw, I use to get ticketed for my Trust exhaust, fully legal, muffler..etc... said my "tip was too large" etc etc.. of course I fought those and won. Then I noticed the stock 350z's and dang those are huge for a stock car. Yet police never pulls them over.. blah.

The FD, from everyone I have spoken to is a better platform, to modify (not a better platform--don't jump down my throat), making this an apples to oranges question. The 13Brew was designed for FI, the Renesis wasn't. I am not saying some people won't get big numbers from their 8's, it will just cost a helluva a lot more and technically be tougher.
I think people on this site are delusional when it comes to the comparo between performance (only performance) of the 7 and 8. As a track car, stock or spending a similar amount on modding, there is no doubt the 7 will smoke the 8 on the track. I second Zerobangers feeling.

From what I've read, the Renesis is considerably stronger than the 13B-REW and was built to take boost. The chassis is better as well as the suspension design. And since we are talking about similar mods, I'd say the RX-8 will take the FD. Hey, Canzoomer already said that with proper a/f/timing tuning the RX-8 will equal or better stock FD and that's NA. There's mention of RX-8 pushing over 1g in the skidpad whith just coilovers and sta-bars. Just imagine when porting get figured out and well tuned turbo/supercharger systems are available! :D I still think the 3rd gen looks better though. If I could find a way to import a 2002 Spirit R I'd do it it a heartbeat.
