UT 60k lifespan + carbon buildup at high revs

I just bought my RX8!!!

45k miles, badly needs new tires, just had its engine rebuilt (discovered it needed one after compression test 2 weeks ago), yet the engine light has been on since the rebuild. I figured no big deal, the car's still good, warranty's still gonna cover this, i'll buy the car.

Let the stories begin.

I take the car in for an inspection........

Ok yes. WHAT THE F*** DID I DO THAT FOR?!?!?!... I don't know where the hell my head was this morning, but for some reason it never crossed my mind that with a check engine light on and almost no tread left on the rear tires, i would fail EVERYTHING... . DUH! I'm blaming it on pre-9am logic

Anyway, so he tells me the engine light is on because it's saying there's random/multiple cylinder misfire detected. He adds that there's carbon build up, because that's what happens when you rev up the engine too often.... I tell him it's the other way around. When you baby the car and never redline it is when the carbon builds up. He nods and agrees, then tells me "but if you keep redlining the car, it'll build up carbon". Wtf?...

Then he adds that the RX8's engine has an average lifespan of 60k miles before needing a rebuild/replacement...

Ok so now i don't wanna talk to this guy anymore. I don't think any of what he's saying is accurate and i've researched the HELL out of this car!

So, aside from my own stupid mistake of taking it in for inspection when it would clearly have failed, is this guy just talking out of his ***? Since when do RX8's need rebuilds every 60k miles? Since when does redlining TOO often cause carbon buildup?

Reassurance please? Or did I just not research the RX8 enough to find some hidden post that clearly says "RX8s need engine rebuilds every 60k miles and please don't redline the engine too often or it'll build up carbon!"?

He has no idea what he's talking about obviously.

Your CEL is probably nothing more than needing new plugs or coils.

Go get some nice tires, and have fun.

This guy is not from Mazda's service department right? if he is, you should tell his manager to fired his *** or if you get the survey in mail, rate him as bad as you can.

if he does not work for Mazda, just some random guy at some shop, tell him that if he doesn't know/not sure about something, please just stfu. It makes you look retarded.

about this guy, see my "explanation" above.

You can redline this engine as often as you like, assume all system are working properly you should have no issue going pass 100K miles. Rotary Engine is not really designed to be an engine in the first place, it was designed to be a PUMP, so tell me, what does a pump do? it SPINS ! ALL THE TIME !

Dont 'worry too much about "rev that bitc' up", just do it whenever you feel like to, BUT, one thing to remember is that you should ALWAYS warm the car up totally before you do any crazy revving. The engine has Iron and Aluminum parts that's "sandwiched" together, and they expands at different speed. so if you rev it too much when it's cold/semi-hot, you will have some problem.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA HAHAHAHAHHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was some random mechanic at a random shop and that's exactly what I told him, except very politely, until finally i gave up so he'd stfu. Cause seriously, he was convinced that they're great cars to drive, it's just a shame they only last 60k miles... lol. I tried telling him people have driven it WAY over 100k (there's a 200k miles club now on here isn't there? On the same engine or on 1 engine replacement/rebuild), but he wouldn't hear it and kept this really stupid smirk on his face.

But yeah i'm aware that i need to let it warm up before going crazy with the revs and can't turn it on and back off without properly letting it warm up (engine flooding).

Final (side) note: I've never enjoyed a car as much as this one. Been wanting one since 2004 :D
