4400km troublefree road trip
Hi fellow wankel nuts!
I just came back from a 4400km trip with my 8 to Cape Town and back. Longest stretches were close to 1500km and she didn't miss a single beat. Here's a few things I came across / noticed:
1. seems like the odometer is around 7 to 8% off clocking too much, seems a bit high??
2. the rear wheels' outer edge seems to catch somewhere on the chassis. The car was loaded a bit with some luggage and there where some occasions where the suspension bottomed out - is this a wheel alignment issue?
3. She used about only half a dipstick of oil over the 4400km. What's up with that? I do premix fortunately.
4. I had to top up the coolant after the first 1500km, thereafter it was fine.
5. overall fuel consumption 11.95l/100km - which is really great I think!!! In town shes getting around 16l/100km.
6. Cold start, hot start... there's no difference, she fires up just like that even in 32 Celsius weather!!
Some details about my 8:
She's a 2004 with just under 100000km on the clock. Only mod is a light weight Exedy flywheel and a stage 1 clutch. Software flash is still original. I did basically everything maintenance wise this forum has to offer:
- coolant flush
- oil change every 5000km
- premix
- new silicone radiator hoses
- new water pump
- replaced all oil injectors
- checked all function of the intake manifold valves and solenoids
- new OEM engine mounts
So what I've learned, if you take care of your your 8, she will take care of you.
What an awesome car!!!
