3 Option to consider...

Need to decide :-/

Appriasal: $20,000
-Current Mods
.. Mazdaspeed spoiler
.. Clear Corners
.. Painted calipers
.. Interior lights
(if swap, i can take out the clear corners and replace them with factory, same with the few interior lights)

I currently own a Black RX8 with GT package.. auto.

I've always desired a manual, and not i'm just flat confused.

I want to customize the car even more with the following:
.. Lambo doors
.. Body kit
.. Debadge
.. Tints
.. Rims

The automatic doesn't really give me the power i desire, however it certain gets alot of attetion and alot of jaws drop when i roll by. I can go as fast as i desire, however i will never be able to have "street fun" (burnouts/good races) etc.

I went to the dealer to check how much it would cost for a swap, and i would spend about $9,500 to trade in my current care for the same car in manual w/o the accessories i currently have on it (so basically factory settings).

Do you guys think it would be worth the money and the performance to trade it in for a manual? Or should i just add the modifications to this car?

I always do alot while i'm driving (sounds stupid, but yea i do get occupied quite a bit but do like to drive manual (this would be first manual car) ).

Please let me know!

Option 1: swap and get minimal additions (to save money)
Option 2: don't swap and get all the additions to this car
Option 3: ?

There will be turbo kits for the auto. I think Re-ameya (sp?) turbo kit is for auto already.

Also, if you plan on getting a body kit, don't waste money on debadge.

No.

Is your happiness worth the money? Maybe. Do you have $9500 to buy out your negative equity? No? Stop here. Recognize you are lucky to have what you do and enjoy it. Yes? Great, but will 40 HP more really make you happy? Yes? You should already be on your way to the dealer. No? See above. Recognize you're lucky to have what you have.

Good Luck.

Option 1. If the manual is your goal...buy the base spec, save the dough and buy all the mods you want. The GT upgrade is silly money!! I know...I have it.

Good luck.

It would be foolish to throw away 30%+ of your money in one year. Keep the car you have a couple years, till the devaluation slows down and then see what is out there then. Hopefully will still be an 8, but have to see what other goodies come out in the next two years.

and i dont think that the turbo would give you that much power... i doubt it. and the STi would still beat u off the line.

Its not worth the trade--because remember to achieve those 5.9sec 0-60 times (which isn't blazingly fast anyway) you need to drop it at very high revs--you aren't going to be doing that much anyway. With normal shifts the 6spds are high 6 sec low 7 sec cars--if you look at the power/torque curve of both cars they are similar until post 6-7K. While the 6spd is more fun than the auto--look at your real world applications--for a modest increase in power its definately not worth the money. My vote is wait on your warranty to be up then turbocharge the automatic.

OPTION #2
...considering you have already started modifying it and you do a lot while driving. You are attached to your car already and you can go fast as you desire. There's nothing wrong with you current ride. I dont think its worth loosing $$$ just for getting the MT. What if you dont like the manual transmission and imagine the regret. What will you do then swap to auto again??

I say, 3.

Keep it, and dont' do anything else to it. Since you've already modded it, it's too late. However, everything you do to you car, you won't ever get it back. Furthmore, any additional mods may cause your car to depreciate faster/lose value and making it more difficult to sell as a result.

Better save the money, wait for a Mazdaspeed Rx8 and get that instead.

Has anyone else noticed that 20,000 is an EXTREMELY low estimate for this car. If you sold it yourself you could get a lot more.

and as for the tampon thing, it's been done http://maddox.xmission.com/c.cgi?u=bill_oreilly

Guys, putting a turbo on a auto is not as easy as it sounds. I for one know on IS300 auto turbo kit it took almost 1 year to get it to shift correctly. Valvebodys are real tricky to fiqure out. Get the manual and save your self the head ache of an auto turbo kit.

TRUST ME.....................

Man, find some other way to use the money ... don't waste it on that "Pimp My Ride" crap. Yikes, whatta waste of good dough. Not to mention messing up a perfectly good car.

Here's what you should do:

Whatever you want to do.

I have a feeling whatever we say won't make any difference any way.

There are no logical choices here - shelling out $9500 to trade up to a manual car from an auto is a collasal waste of dough. Adding all that "Pimp" **** to it is also a collasal waste of money too. Why ask what you should do? If it makes you happy just do it. But don't expect us to add logic to your illogical choices.

My $.02 worth.

Stew
