Well, my little Renesis made it to 145,000 miles and developed an internal coolant leak last fall. It was still running, but I decided to pull the old engine and replace it with one that didn't leave a fog bank in the driveway on start up.

Just got the new(er) engine bolted up and running a couple of days ago. Back to zoom zoom land

Nice dude, watch your oil consumption to make sure your OMP system is functioning properly. If you go an oil change with out burning oil you have problems. Try an stop by the SARX lounge, we have some mod days and meets coming up.

Wow, I'm a lurker on here while I research and hunt for an RX8 for my daily driver. This thread scares me. 2-3 engines to get to 100k?!?!?! Hardly any original motors past 100k? Holy mother.

Well my 2004 is currently at 132,000 on the original engine. My daily driver. I've been using Idemitsu pre-mix since around 60K. Even had the original "slow starter" up until this past winter replaced with the upgraded. No problems and running strong. Do my own maintenance. I've run through quite a few tires though....

Ask yourself, roughly what percentage of owners with engine problems find their way to this forum. Got it? Okay, now ask yourself what percentage of owners with no engine problems have cause to even look for — let alone visit, register and post something — to an RX-8 forum.

Draw your own conclusion.

I'm sorry, I thought this was a forum for enthusiasts.

It is, but not exclusively. The people that visit just to correct a problem are another group that come here. You can tell them by their low post counts.

Appreciate the input, and it looks good at face value, but those posting multiple engine failures have post counts in the 100s and the 1,000s... I am noob to RX8s, I will still get one, so don't shun me just yet.

I've got 154K miles on my 8. Very few problems. I'm experiencing intermittent stalling at traffic lights and will not start again for 45 minutes to an hour then starts right up. I've taken it to Mazda and they can't get it to act up. But I still love my car!

Well, I got about 145k out of my 2004 before I developed an internal coolant leak and swapped out a newer engine earlier this year. I'm still zooming at 153k miles now and grinning every time I hear the shift buzzer.

Just hit 100,000 this past weekend

My 8 has been a great car, it has never flooded, never stalled on me, or never not started when I turned the key(except for a dead battery once).
I'm on my Original engine too... The car feels like it has a lot of life left to it. Still strong as ever.
Sadly I'm trying to sell it though... I just need something with a little more room.
But there will definitely another 8 in my future as a second car. I definitely have to say this website is probably the reason my car is in the condition its in.
But the car is for sell if anyone is interested!
