Ray at Malloy mazda claims to have a method to detect these "all new part" remans (for rx7s, not sure about rx8s) and he sells them at higher prices than a 'regular luck of the draw" reman....but with good reason since a zero mile all-new-part japan-assembled block would be worth twice what a regular reman or rebuild would be.

then AC/delco got the contract, and they took all the counterweights and put them in one container :facepalm:
the new plant, has actually just shipped NEW FD engines for the last few years, they call it a reman, but they are brand new. i think once they run out though, that'll be it.
and all the Rx8 remans i've seen have had new rotor housings, but i haven't seen em all. i'm also sure they just use the side seals as stamped on the rotors, so there's no clearancing going on. its not perfect, but if you have damage to the engine, its more cost effective.
as for side seal ... if u want speed u follow the stamp, if u want the best you grind them yourself with a rotary grinder. at least that's rx8. (they have stamp side seal for the 7 as well, never sold in the states tho)

Well, I don't know about that...I have seen several that had reused parts and were not new during that time frame. A local shop I deal with is waiting for ray to get in some more FD remans that at least have new rotor housings and not reused ones (it's easy to tell) and he's been waiting about a month because all the ones that have come through ray's hands have had used housings.

I wonder if I can still get one ? cuz in the very near future ...
It's luck of the draw, but I think as warranty runs "out", there will be less and less "Cores" being returned cuz most people not gonna bothered. Just like FD and we might see 100% new engines ... but ... the builder's craftsmanship is still questionable ...
as for side seal ... if u want speed u follow the stamp, if u want the best you grind them yourself with a rotary grinder. at least that's rx8. (they have stamp side seal for the 7 as well, never sold in the states tho)

No. It would be cheaper to buy a used engine and put it in yourself. It might even be cheaper to buy a used engine and have a shop put it in for you (If you catch a real cheap engine and a real cheap shop).
Rebuilding the engine and just replacing the seals is the cheapest option, but you may not like what you find when you crack it open if the engine has been sitting with a blown seal for a while. Side irons do not long term water exposure. Also there are any number of ways you can screw it up and costing yourself even more.
Whatever you do, don't expect to make money on your first time dealing with a blown rotary.

OK......lot's of blown water jacket seals out there. I have rebuilt many 13B's over the years, using in a off road turbo sandrail application. But when my RX8 started having the hard start/white smoke problem.....I was not to thrilled to pull the motor.......Sandrails are a piece of cake to work on compared to bending over the hood of an Rx8. Anyway, after reading a lot of forum chatter, I decided to try the unthinkable, and put 1 and 1/2 bottles of ALUMASEAL in the radiator.....IT WORKS! I have put 2000 miles on it so far, and still holding. Granted there are different levels of seal failure, size of damaged area.....And who knows, it could fai tomorrow....but untill it does, I'm driving it......$7.00 and it's back on the road, and runs great!

^^ That's what I was gonna say, especially the heater core ---- it's a Biaaaatttcccchhhh to replace. for me it's worst than swapping the engine.
i like how smart *** takes short cuts, mess it up, sell it back out later and claim the car sucks (the new owner gonna say it sucks too)

hey guys,i have a similar problem but mine just started after i hit a stone and the radiator got ripped,the mechanic is telling me to get the new water jacket seals and replace em and the car will be back to normal,kindly advise hommies....
