WARNING about warranty scam

This is probably only relevant to people who have recently bought their car used...

Do not trust Carsafe...

I just got something in the main today in an extremely professional looking letter. It was claiming that my extended warranty was about to expire and that I needed to renew it. It discussed all of the parts that were covered under the warranty, and told me that I had until January 16th to renew before it expired.

At first I thought it was from Mazda, but once I found that it didn't have any official Mazda stuff on it, and that the contact number wasn't Mazda North America's, I started to get skeptical. It still looked like it could possibly be a third party warranty company that the previous owner of my car had contacted to get a warranty for the parts no longer covered by Mazda.

The letter told me to have my VIN and mileage count ready when I called the number to renew the warranty....

After I searched the phone number and name Carsafe online I found a decent amount of sites saying that it was nothing but a scam. Since it looked extremely legitimate I figured I would post on here to be sure noone falls for it. So if you get a letter from Carsafe about extending your warranty, don't get excited about how the previous owner must have bought your car an extra warranty you weren't aware of. Throw it away....

(If this is in the wrong section then mods please move it. I just figured that since it is applicable to money things involving people who have recently purchased an 8, this would be a good place for it.)

You should report it to the Attorney General in AL or secretary of state.

Stuff like that reallllly pisses me off. Anyone who has an office and a toll free line set up for nothing but scamming people is pretty low ha

Don't trust the BBB. All someone has to do to get past the BBB ratings is purchase a business membership. You can have a ton of unresolved complaints and still get an A+ rating through them if you pay for it.

Heh, sounds like just about any 3-letter government abbreviation.

The postcards still come out, but not too often. and yes, they are meant to look official, otherwise people won't get concerned and call the bastards. Nowhere near as annoying as the twice-weekly geico spam letters i get, but still...

On a side note, those annoying *** "do not be alarmed" phone calls are starting to happen again... you get extended warranty offers from them too, as well as credit card and mortgage refi offers.

Me and my wife curently have 4 cars. I get at least one of these letters a week from various companies claiming to represent my warranty company. I've even got them for vehicles I no longer own. Its just your typical junk mail.

Prepare to be sorely disappointed. I've been on the Do Not Call registry since its inception in 2004 and it most certainly does NOT stop robo-callers.

You gotta remember, laws are only obeyed by honest people.

Yeah, I'm on it too and it really doesn't do too much... I still get calls pretty frequently.

Drats.... My cell phone has been getting calls recently about health insurance and all kinds of other BS. I keep opting out of them, but it doesn't seem to help. I figured it might help with the calls at least.

those letters are "common"

from time to time me and my family gets **** like that. it looks like they're doing you a favor by "offering" you a "limited" time extended warranty for an "unusual" good price blah blah blah.

they got the info based on your VIN and the "titled" day plus the whatever the manufacture warranty period. then when its "about to expire" they will send you that letter. a lot of people are dumb enough & fell for it.
