Thinking of Buying an 07+ RX-8

Most of you are probaly like not another one of these threads. Well I did my research read over many threads and even that first thread that states everything about the RX-8's "problems"

This will be my third car and it will be more of a "weekend" car, I first drove an 04 Taurus which was a great car to learn to drive and beat up. After that I got an 08 Mazda6, and I fell in love with Mazda's engineering.

With that beig said I have a few questions about driving and up keep of the 8.
I'm looking at the 2007+ with the 6 speed, so I should be avoiding most of the engine failures and mechanical problems?

When I drive it I should first let it idle for a min or two then take it under 3,000k rpms untill the water temp is at 70?

As long as I keep with scheduled maintence everything should run smoothly, correct?

I know to get the compression test done and besides the normal history checking is their anything specific I should be on the look out for?

Well, you say you read my thread. So I guess that you didn't believe me, even with the number of people commenting that it's accurate, or even how heavily the thread is linked on the forum.

If you don't believe that, then I don't see how someone else telling you the same thing here will be any more believable. And most people will just prefer to point you over at my thread rather than bother with retyping it.

No, your 'looking to buy' thread is EXACTLY the same as every other one we see. Except perhaps this one is trying to insult us at the same time.

Answered in a million places. Perhaps even literally. You are correct that I actually don't specifically address this comment in my thread. I will correct that. You obviously found the rule of thumb though...

I'm just gonna jump in for a second...

Everyday there are posts that are bascally verbatum; let the car warm up before driving hard, conduct routine maintanance, check and keep oil at proper levels, etc.

My question is, how is any of this specific to the RX8 and not every other car on the road? I just don't get it. Every car I own or have owned gets treated the same way, all of which conform to the questions above.

This is not a flame intended towards the OP. Just an observation that leaves me scratching my head sometimes.

^ Correct

We just stress it so heavily because the penalty for negligence / ignorance is so much higher with a rotary.

The only reason I came on and probaly asked some of the stupidest questions was I've been researching and everywhere I look everyone says this car needs more attention than most cars.
I was just trying to get that little more reassurance because to be honest I was I guess mislead with alot of the information I have came across.

It DOES need more attention.

Think about the words I used in that sentance for a moment.

'Need'

'more'

'attention'

You can ignore a piston engine'ed car quite a bit. It's not healthy for the engine, but you can do it without severe penalty. It's the same stuff with a rotary, but you can't ignore it nearly as much (hence 'more attention'), and the penalty for ignoring it is pretty severe (hence 'need').

And yes, there is TONS of misinformation out there about the rotary, RX-8, Renesis, etc... Mostly from people that have no idea what they are talking about, or have dealt with severe issues from their own negligence but don't want to own up to their share in the problem (or refuse to recognize it). That's partly why I wrote that thread to begin with.

"Open sourced" information. A place where experts can make sure it's correct and newbies can be sure they are getting good information.

Just glance at two of the other new owner threads in the past 48 hours. Both of them have newbies that shouldn't be responding providing bad information. You are actually MORE likely to get bad information by creating a thread.

I think I got all the information I'll ever need.

I wasn't trying to insult you guys in any way shape or form. Just wanted to reassure myself that I what I knew and understood from your post was correct and I didn't misunderstand anything.

I am sorry if this insulted anyone though, it wasn't intended to do so. But going back and reading it again I can see how you did get insulted.
